About this mod Machine translation

describe:

This is a replacement for the world map in your Pip-Boy. It is a combination of FloorBelow's satellite world map and VirusZ's color map. It's a texture replacer and is the correct size, so no ESP file is required. The map itself offers a satellite view of the Federation crafted using the game's LoD mesh and textures. The map has icons for settlements, vaults, power armor, military bases, subways, police stations, magazines, discoverable locations (optional) and roads + railways (optional). You'll find multiple options in terms of icons that should appear on the map during installation, and this particular map has more accurate boundary lines. Oh yeah, I painstakingly (in god mode and a lot of running speed gear) ran around the edges of the entire wasteland so I could discover where the borders actually were. What do the borders on the map mean, do they not even represent any borders? Tsk. Get your stuff together, Bethesda.

In addition to the new border lines and the combination of the two maps, the icons in use have also been updated, and the map's grid is more like what we're used to. The outer borders are manually fixed because the original big black grid from the satellite world map is actually the individual grids of the LoD, and they don't meet completely seamlessly. So...clone stamp, bitch!

I was going to remove the big black grid in the satellite world map from the entire map (which can be a pain) but thought it would be more useful if there was a grid there. So, I completely redid the grid - I even got out a calculator to figure out the exact size each square needed (hey, I'm pretty proud of that... I'm good at math. Really.) - and now it's labeled with coordinates. This makes it easier to tell your friends where to find something. Like, "I ran into this crazy overpowered Law of Death at 1C-30, so don't go there! Or, uh... I mean... forget what I said. There's tons of loot at 1C-30, go there immediately... uh... don't save for a few hours before then. Yeah. Do that. > :]" Either way, I'm sure you'll all find some sort of use for it.

Manual installation:

Extract archive.

Select the flavor you want and open the folder (e.g. VG-All).

Copy "worldmap_d.dds" to "textures\interface\pip-boy" in the Data folder.

Finish!

All of these are in color. This means it won't just be solid pink or green, or whatever your Pip-Boy color is set to. It won't look like that unless you do some wizardry in your ini file first. Now look, before I continue... I just want to stay with you: after you do this, the entire interface of your Pip-Boy will be white, but the rest of your UI will be unaffected. So weigh whether you want a colored map and a white pip-boy UI, or if you just want a monotone map. Your choice.

Install:

To get it's color you need to navigate to Documents\My Games\Fallout4 and edit the existing file or create a new one called Fallout4Custom.ini, it needs to have the following content:

[Pipboy]

bPipboyDisableFX = 1

Now, if your map doesn't work at all - man, have you done any texture or mesh replacement mods? - Then you need to edit your Fallout4.ini, under [Archive] you need to add this line:

bInvalidateOlderFiles = 1

If you have anything after sResourceDataDirsFinal= then delete everything after it as it will make your game load like a forgotten laziness. serious. This will be the loading speed of your game:

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
