There is a surprising lack of defenses in the base game, with only 2 small guard towers, I feel more defenses should be added. Over the course of 4 updates/installments we've added 51 buildable defenses, from bunkers to sandbag barriers, trenches and many other things.
structure:
Trenches - Short, Long, Defensive and Corner Trench - 5 snap-able trenches that you can use to fortify your settlement. Build one or two for decent protection, or go all out and make a trench system.
Bunkers - Concrete bunkers used to establish strongholds throughout the Commonwealth. Different sizes and designs for every situation.
Heavy Machine Gun Nest - Another stronghold structure with a unique armor pack add-on for improved protection.
Sandbag Cover - A stack of snap-on sandbags and "struts" used to reinforce any area. Also works great in the trenches.
Dragon's Teeth - You may have seen these barriers in photos of the Siegfried Line, they were designed to stop vehicles or direct them into the killing zone. Great for stopping mechanized troops in power armor. There are 3 teeth to choose from, each with a different height and slightly different design.
Barbed Wire and Barricades - 3 fences, 3 barricades, Czech Hedgehogs (wood and metal), Pickets - Fences and log structures wrapped in barbed wire stop the enemy from advancing any further and can be used to tunnel them into the kill zone.
Quonset Hut - Medium sized hut made of corrugated galvanized steel. It can become living quarters in different areas of the wasteland. Thanks to Ethreon for the mesh.
Watchtower - Survey the area and watch out for enemy skirmishers from this fortified position.
Temporary defensive positions - unlike a nuclear war where 200 years later you would have an effective defense industry. Improvise a picnic table, dig a fox hole, or stack some sandbags—these locations are made from a combination of the sturdiest materials around.
Field Command - A camouflaged location with plenty of room for a table and weapons boxes to plan your attacks.
Tents - Sandbag reinforced tents. Lightweight Sandbag Post - A less protective sandbag and wood structure suitable for checkpoints.
Heavy Sandbag Post - A heavily reinforced version of the Light Post; provides good coverage in hot areas.
Camouflaged Post - A camouflaged wooden post ideal for overlooking forested areas that you can blend into.
Defensive Position - Two sandbag mounds provide moderate cover for one man.
Camouflage Nets - Three camouflage nets that provide cover for defensive positions, turrets, and artillery howitzers.
Barriers - Inspired by Hesco Barriers, these wooden shells and dirt-filled cubes are perfect for thick, tall walls.
High sandbag wall - suitable for general coverage.
Design/Features:
All defenses are under Defense > Sentry in the workshop.
Since the ground cannot be changed dynamically in the game, the trenches are raised above the ground.
Many buildings can be guarded by settlers. Light and heavy-duty sandbag posts and camouflage posts come in two versions - one for designated guards and the other for putting things on the roof.
All structures may sink into the ground.
Trenches, sandbag covers and posts, defensive barriers and wire mesh fences can be broken off at different heights so they can be used on uneven/sloping ground.
If the defensive position camouflage net combo doesn't work, try placing the net first and then sliding the sandbag pile in. The same goes for howitzers.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
