About this mod Machine translation
TLDR: Put one of these beacons into a container and send a team of settlers to pick up everything you put into the container and bring it all back to the workbench.
To use: Build a Chemistry Station in a solution (found under Resources->Miscellaneous), assign a Settler to it, then make a Salvage Beacons in the Chemistry Station under Utility, and place one in a container in the world along with your loot where you want to move it.
The idea behind this mode is to address the disconnect between exploration games - Bethesda games and the break in creation as you need to hoard everything you find to build a settlement - and solve it in an immersive way.
Why
How often do you find yourself enjoying some exploration, finding a cool "dungeon", and passing your carrying capacity halfway through? So now this awesome little ass-kicking adventure is interrupted as you're forced to manage inventory or leave something valuable behind.
There are obviously many simple solutions, like waiting to pick up stuff before you kill everything, using zero-weight mods, or just using the console to add yourself a bunch of crafting materials. The first method requires you to back up in both directions and cross each space twice - not to mention you still have to keep going back to the settlement, while the other two are non-immersive cheats.
One of the more immersive solutions available now is to add more carrying capabilities, and great mods like Wearable Backpacks and Pouches are great!
But wait, I'm supposed to be the general of a militia and leader of dozens of settlements, why am I hauling hundreds of pounds of trash?
how
This is where Salvage Beacons come into play. Using basic radio technology, you can set up communication stations in settlements and assign settlers to monitor your beacons. When you're adventuring and need to clear out your inventory, you simply place a beacon into a container and write a note on it so your settlers know which settlement you're sending your goods to. Anything else you put into that container will then be collected and dropped onto the Settlement workbench you noted.
Require:
Local Leader - Level 1
At least one Settler is assigned to the new miscellaneous resource named "Communications Station"
important:
Settlers won't steal from you, and the rescue beacon won't activate if there are any red-marked items in the container - if you want to steal the items and empty the container first, you can use a beacon there.
Railroad Headquarters, Prydwwn, and the Institute are all off limits to your settlers, and they are not welcome in these secret/fortress hideouts, so Salvage Beacons will not work in those places. (This will change in a future version where the mod will check certain story conditions to change these limits)
(As of version 0.4.0) Support for all settlements, both Bethesda and user created. Whenever Settlement appears on the Mobile Settlers menu, it will appear as an option for your Salvage Beacon. *Settlement in custom world space should work, but distance calculations may not work properly.
Far Harbor - Far Harbor is just over 200 miles from the Commonwealth, so the beacon radio signal is too weak to reach the Commonwealth. This means that you need to establish a communication station in one of the settlements in Far Harbor before you can use the rescue beacon in that area.
future
This is an excerpt from a larger mod I'm working on that will weave this and many other useful gadgets into a normal game, so you encounter them organically. Since the larger mod is still a while away, I thought I'd release this little gizmo as I've found it very useful for survival games and would love some feedback and bug reports on this particular project.
Popular Mods to Avoid
I'd like to start off by saying that I have used and loved these mods in the past. I list them here because not only do they cause problems with this mod, but they are often built in such a way that it wreaks havoc on the game and the l …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
