What does this mod do?

TL;DR: Made player and NPC weapon sounds more realistic. Improve and balance ambience and reverb to make it more realistic and vivid. Increase the variety and dynamics of sounds in your game. Many issues fixed. Lightweight and compatible with all sound replacer mods.

  • Added two sliders to the Audio menu for Reverb and Ambience. To make the sliders sticky, they default to 100%, which is slightly larger than vanilla (around 80-90%). "Ambiance" controls the volume of mechanical hums, birds, water droplets, insects, room tones, and more. It also controls the in-game radio. "Reverb" simply controls the amount of reverb - most notably the reverb from gunshots, explosions, and things like Magnolia singing - it doesn't turn off the actual reverb in the cell, just certain things interacting with it. So even at 0% you may hear some noise. There's no way to completely remove it, it sounds weird anyway. However, this gives you maximum flexibility
  • Add ambient sounds and reverb types to areas where they don't exist, or fix inappropriate or generic settings. For example, outdoor ambient sounds were removed in the vanilla game when you used the "fake" reverb setting to enter a small shed or other small structure - this mod fixes this. This gives the game's sound design (which I absolutely love) a denser, more "alive" feel. Additionally, "one-shot" ambient sounds such as wind gusts and creaking wood will now trigger more frequently.
  • Add the newly created environment type to the zone using common settings. Glowing sea caves, sewers and elevators are no longer the same.
  • Added vanilla ambient sounds to appropriate areas. This includes daytime birds and the occasional cicada, nighttime crickets and howling dogs and wolves, among others.
  • Rebalance indoor and outdoor atmosphere. Vanillas are louder indoors - this brings them closer without even completely changing the dynamics. Some occasional sounds are slightly louder.
  • Reduce (or in some cases lower) the amount of reverb produced by certain sounds. Gunshots, exploding cars, etc. now appear more realistic, and quieter sounds are getting some tweaks based on the situation.
  • Fixed outdoor weapon trails to match various weapons. In the vanilla game, all weapons use the same generic pistol and rifle sounds. Using this mode, laser, plasma, and gamma weapons have a unique outdoor reverb tail, as well as weapons like Broadside, which have a unique sound.
  • Rebalanced NPC weapon sounds to seamlessly connect with player sounds. This means that the tail is now passed through the same reverb

As a parameter for player tails, rather than the softer vanilla style. This really makes gunfights lively and loud, especially indoors.

-NPCs now use unique outdoor tails, allowing you to differentiate between ballistic and energy weapons at long range.

  • Different room types and areas behave differently. The dome is now massive, echoing, metallic. Wooden rooms are more subdued. Cinderblock is more sound absorbing than metal etc. The difference between small and large spaces is even greater. Outdoors has a near simulated echo engine that allows you to really feel the power of big guns and the impact of power armor landing. Speaking of which...

Energy Armor's footsteps and impact landings now have more reverberation for both players and NPCs. It's a small tweak that's barely noticeable, but it works well when surrounded by NPCs in Power Armor.

  • Increases the decay of almost all reverb types. This allows sound to travel over longer distances while reducing the distance over which the sound plays in "2D". A whooshing sound above your head sounds a lot different than a wide miss or hit.
  • Fixed Cowardly frag grenade. Home brewed Vanilla Shard mixed with some Shard Mine and some explosive Auto to add bass, this should work great for any sound replacement mod or Vanilla. Fun fact: …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
