introduce
This mod eventually hopes to do a lot with the Rust Demon, but for now I'm starting small. At first, it bothered me because once I met Ada, the Commonwealth was overrun by these drug addicts. They should now occur at exactly the same rate as vanilla encounters. This makes auto-warrior encounters much less common than before. IMPORTANT!! I did not change how often the mechanic troops attack the workshop. I think this is an intentional plot device to 1) push you to find this villain, 2) make you feel targeted (because you're just listening to the holotape), and 3) make you want revenge so bad. These encounters will disappear after completing the Automatron main quest. Next, why do the Rust Demon's automatons carry robot repair kits and they don't? I've never seen my robot companion heal someone else or themselves (maybe I wasn't paying close attention). To fix this, I gave all non-unique Rust Demons an increased chance of a Robot Repair Kit. Finally, I find their naming to be boring compared to regular raiders. Currently all non-legendary Rust Demons are still called Rust Demons, but the legendary ones should have new names.
This mod is still in beta (everything either works, or I think it works), and may move on to a more complex mod once I confirm it works (see future plans).
Install:
Just put this in your load order. Minimum to within reason.
uninstall
It should be straightforward to remove. A cell reset may be required for this to take effect.
compatibility
Obviously, this requires the Mechanical Legion DLC. I edited several cast notes and related script events. If you find an incompatibility, please let me know and I'll try to fix it. You can fix it yourself using FO4Edit. If you can fix it, tell me and I can post it here.
Future plans
More variety in regular (non-legendary) Rust Demon names, mimicking the rich variety in regular Reaver names.

Thanks, thanks to LBraden for directing me to Automatron RE and LS Rareer, which made me discover global variables. Now that I understand how this works, I feel like I've made a nice workaround.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
