Added State of Decay 2-style dynamically growing feral infestations for Fallout 4.
Require:
F4SE
Survival mode or advanced requirement 76 (plague related)
How does it work? (It’s troublesome not to Chineseize MCM, the holographic tape and MCM are the same settings)
To get started, just go to CHEMLAB's UTILITY menu and make a free setup holotape. The mod starts in a disabled state, so you need to use holotape to turn it on and set the mod's basic settings. For those who use MCM, the mod does come with an MCM menu for you to use instead of holotape, although you don't need to use it (for those who don't, you don't need to use MCM).
The difficulty setting in holotape tells the infected how big they are and the relative strength of the ferals. The higher the difficulty, the more feral, and the stronger their stock.
To remove an infestation, all wildlife in the target location must be eliminated to prevent the infestation from continuing to grow. Infection missions appear as MISC missions and do not clutter your main mission log.
After each infection is cleared, it will allow further infections to occur, and the mod will persist as long as you play your character.
Failure to clear an infestation will cause fully formed level 3 infestations to leave their current nest and travel to the nearest owning player settlement in search of food, which is of course what makes the mod's infestations practical gameplay. This works best when you enable the Mortal Settlers mod, so there is a real cost to not clearing the infestation.
Infections occur randomly as you travel through Federation world space; they will never trigger in Far Harbor or Nuka World.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
