About this mod Machine translation
A super lightweight and vanilla-friendly overhaul of the raider gang that dominates the FMS Northstar level list.
A super lightweight and vanilla-friendly overhaul of the FMS Northstar Crew tier list. Using only vanilla ingredients, it's designed to be vanilla friendly and minimalist. If you are overhauling a large number of new assets, this may not be for you.
Updated on January 13th:
Version 1.2
Fixed corrupt actor data
Version 1.1
Fixed naming from "Northern Star" to "Polaris"
Turrets and crews now only generate aggro when invaded. No longer inherently hostile.
Restored 1 unused crew member by replacing the crew spawn that was used twice. Every FMS npc is now used.
The packaged ESP and ESL versions are uploaded together, and you can choose one to install according to your preference.
FMS Northstar is a great location in Fallout 4 with a cool backstory. Norewiegen sailor stranded on Commonwealth coast, swallowed by atomic blast. With few options, the crew begins raiding for survival, traveling nearly two centuries before coming face to face with the sole survivor. So why are these raiders indistinguishable from regular gangs, aside from their unique combat dialogue? This mod will first give the crew the correct title of "Pirates of the North Star". Now, before anyone complains that piracy is only seafaring, the term also refers to land raids, which Polaris crews must do. In addition to being labeled as pirates, crew members now wear predator attire to distinguish themselves from other hostile NPCs. This seems appropriate since the crew usually seems to be isolationists unless out to rob. While boarding the ship they ask you to leave multiple times or question what you are doing there. The only exception is their pirate leader "Rags", who wears strong coastal armor. Their weapon pool remains the same, as a ragtag group of survivalists won't care too much about specific weapon affinities.
This is specifically designed as a drop-in replacement, so level lists, equipment records, and sometimes NPC data can be edited directly. It will conflict with anything that directly edits the affected records, but is compatible with mods using level list injection. Keep this in mind when organizing and sorting your load order.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
