As of v1.1, the mod requires the latest version of F4SE.
We highly recommend using my tool: Fallout4.exe for automatic backup, as this mod needs to be updated with every new version of the game.
Use a mod manager like Mod Manager.
Either
Extract the contents of the rar file to the Fallout 4 Data folder.
Use the mod manager or manually enable PlayerVoiceFrequencySlider.esp.
MCM is not required, just recommended!

Change the frequency of player sound categories by setting Holotape: Inventory/Others/[Settings] Player Voice Frequency.
You can also make this holotape in Chemistry Stations under Utility. Starting with v1.1, dialogue samples will be played continuously as you fine-tune the frequency in Pip-Boy. The dialog example will stop when exiting Pip.Boy.
If you are using MCM, there is a more comfortable way to control the mod.
As of v1.1, there is a button in MCM to start/stop a sample dialogue that will play continuously as you fine-tune the frequency.
Craftable projects use vanilla categories.
No vanilla records have been modified.
There is no known possibility of compatibility issues with any mods.
Since the mod dynamically changes the player's sound category, it is compatible with any other mod, can replay, replay player lines, or add new lines to the player, and it is also compatible with any game language.
As of v1.1, there are no compatibility issues with slow motion effects like jets, VATS, VAFS, death, etc.
Starting with v2.0, dynamic compatibility with any mod that adds new slow time effects to the game - a new native function dynamically finds all slow time effects currently installed for the player (vanilla, DLC, CC or other mods) and makes the mod automatically rescale the voice frequency after those effects end, making PVoFS automatically compatible with any other game content.
Any value below 0.95 may cause a noticeable delay between the sound and lip movement! Additionally, the lower the value, the greater the chance that your next line of dialogue or an NPC's response may interrupt your current line of dialogue! Use beyond recommended frequency intervals at your own risk.
If you set a value higher than 1.0, some of the sound effects that come with the player may respect the speech frequency setting, meaning they will be slightly higher. For example, loading the holotape's sounds in Pip-Boy or the Legend Portal unlocks the sounds for The Wasteland Codex mod. These are currently some of the minor drawbacks of PVoFS.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
