About this mod Machine translation
Overview
Well, been looking and waiting for a mod to implement the "famous" unused dialogue from the Paladin Danse files, but haven't found one yet. Not being able to find the pattern I'm looking for is usually the reason I decide to try making my own. :-D
Use dialogue from the end game to provide more options for resolving Danse's identity. Don't expect anything too crazy, as all I had to work with was about 20 lines of Danse's unused dialogue combined with stuff already in the game. Given the circumstances, my humble opinion is that the results are relatively solid. Keeping it light, compliant and stable is my top priority.
Options
Perform Blind Betrayal as normal, convince Danse to stay... and help Danse decide what to do!
The suggestion to leave the Commonwealth and start over will lead you to the vanilla path, with one change: after confronting Maxson, if you repeat that he should leave before Maxson changes his mind, Danse will actually leave the Commonwealth. (Don't think many players will choose to do this, but it's a valid choice.)
Suggesting to return to the Brotherhood will lead you to a new quest, during which a duel occurs and a new elder is decided (if you refuse to perform the Danse when you meet Maxson).
If the player is a member of a railroad, they can suggest joining the railroad. Danse will become a member of the Railroad and continue fighting the Institute there (again, if you refuse to perform Danse when you meet Maxson). This will give you additional options in Tactical Thinking missions, but will not expand further.
If the player is still a member of the Academy, they can suggest returning to the Academy. (Spoiler alert: Danse won't like it very much. :-D)
If you have completed Blind Betrayal (while saving Danse's life) and defeated the Brotherhood or Militia main quest; you can talk to Danse while he is not your partner to gain a new dialogue option (moderately repeatable speech check), which will trigger the Duel quest. If you complete the main quest without completing Blind Betrayal, you're lucky.
Compatibility and installation
Don't install it without DANSE being your current companion - especially not after a blog! Fire him first! (Should be safe as of v2.5, but better safe than sorry. ;-) )
Don't install while blind baby is running! If your goal is a post-game option, do this before the mission starts or after it's completed. (For new installations, it should be v2.5 of sage, you must not run BLIND BETRAYAL when updating!!!)
Obviously this will conflict with mods that change the same quest (mainly the BoS main quest and Danse dialogue, the others shouldn't really matter) but loading them all up will prevent a fair amount of the problem as it will win all direct conflicts.
While technically not required, I recommend using a full conversational interface or a similar mod. This mod's dialogue options use full responsiveness and may not always fit perfectly on the screen (most likely depending on resolution and other things).
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
