Introduction

The Nuka-World DLC includes many different items to hunt down and collect: Hidden Cappys, Nuka-Cola Recipe Books, Park Medals, and of course... Star Cores. The completionist in me demands that I find everything, but I don't want to keep referring to a wiki or online guide. I also don’t want to go back and pixel search the places I’ve already cleaned trying to find my missing items.

I (original author scotty9090, the same below) have been hoping that someone would make a mod that adds quest markers to all these things, but no one has done so... so I did. This mod adds or modifies 66 quest markers covering the following items:

Star Core

Modified the vanilla Star Control mission to show mission markers for 34 of the 35 star cores (see note below). After activating the Star Control console, you will receive mission objectives in your log to find the Star Cores scattered around Nuka-World as usual, but there will now also be mission markers to guide you directly to them.

Important note:

The vanilla mission already contains a marker - this is the Star Core lying directly next to the corpse near the host terminal. I didn't add a tag to this because it would be redundant. However, if you pick up a different Star Core from another location and use it to make the initial repairs required to activate the host, you will not get the Star Core's token next to the corpse. This shouldn't be a big deal since it's actually lying on the plain less than 10 feet away from you.

If you have already started a Star Control mission (and may have collected some Star Cores), this mod will detect which cores have been collected and (as of v1.2.0) only display markers for the remaining cores.

New in version 1.2.0: This mod also hooks into the miscellaneous objectives you receive after repairing a host and completing Star Control - this will appear in your quest log under Miscellaneous -> "Complete Repairing a Host". So if you happen to complete Star Control before picking up all the tokens, you will no longer lose tokens.

Nuka-Cola Recipe Book:

The Nuka-Cola Recipe Book doesn't have the original quest to hook into, so I added a new standalone quest. When you first exit the Cola-Cars Arena (where you fought the Overboss), you'll be at the top of a short flight of stairs. If you look a little to the right, there is a park bench with a Nuka-Recipe Flyer and a Holotape on it. Read the flyer to start the mission, and get the holotape for some configuration options (see below).

Notes:

One of the recipe books (Nuka-Love) was received directly from an NPC, so I gave him a quest mark. Once you talk to him, you'll receive the recipe book.

Find the needle in the haystack

There are already markers for this mission, but maddeningly, they disappear once the player is within a sizable radius of the target. I've reduced the radius significantly (25% of the original radius) so the markers will still show up until you get very close to the Cappy position.

The radius is fully customizable with holographic tape (see picture). You can choose from 100% (vanilla behavior), 75%, 50%, 25% (default), or 0% (the marker never disappears). This way, if you still want to follow clues to find markers, but just make things easier, or just disable this part of the mod entirely, you can.

Park Medal

There aren't many of these and you end up walking right past the dispenser, but I still managed to walk past one without noticing it. I modified the Precious Medals quest (which you receive from N.I.R.A, a giant robotic Nuka-Cola bottle) to include markers in addition to the already existing quest log objectives.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
