Nuka-World Collectable Quest Markers
introduce
The Nuka-World DLC includes many different items to hunt down and collect: Hidden Cappys, Nuka-Cola recipe books, park medals, and of course... Star Cores. The completionist in me demands that I find everything, but I don't want to constantly refer to wikis or online guides. I wouldn't even rather go back and do a pixel search of the places I've cleared trying to find my missing items.
I've been hoping someone would make a mod to add quest markers to all this stuff, but no one has done it... so I did. This mod adds or modifies 66 quest markers, covering the following items:
star core
Modify the vanilla Star Control mission to display mission markers for 34 of the 35 star cores (see note below). After activating the Star Control console, you will receive mission objectives in the log to find the Star Cores scattered around Nuka-World as usual, but now also have mission markers to guide you in their proper use.
Important notes:
The vanilla mission already contains a marker - this is a star-shaped core laid directly from a corpse near the host terminal. I didn't add a tag for this because it's redundant on its own. However, if you pick up a different Star Core from another location and use it to perform the initial repairs required to activate the mainframe, you will not get the Star Core token for the corpse. This shouldn't be a big deal since it's actually on a regular site less than 10 feet away from you.
If you have already started the Star Control mission (and may have collected some Star Cores), this mod will detect the cores that have been collected (as of v1.2.0) and only show a marker for the remaining cores.
New in version 1.2.0: This mod also hooks into the miscellaneous objectives received after repairing the mainframe and completing Star Control - this will show up in the quest log under "Miscellaneous" -> "Complete Repairing the Mainframe". Therefore, you will no longer lose markers if you complete Star Control before selecting all Star Controls.
Nuka-Cola Recipe Book
There is no vanilla quest for the Nuka-Cola recipe book, so I added a new standalone quest. When you first leave the Cola-Cars Arena (where you fought the Overboss), you'll be at the top of a short staircase. If you look to the right, there is a park bench with a Nuka-Recipe Flyer and a holotape on it. Read the leaflet to get started and get some configuration options for holotape (see below).
notes:
One of the recipe books (Nuka-Love) was received directly from the NPC, so I put the quest marker on him. Once you talk to him, you will receive the recipe book.
Cappy at the haystack location
This mission already has markers, but maddeningly, they disappear once the player is within a sizable target radius. I've reduced the radius significantly (25% of the original) so the marker will still show up until you're very close to the Cappy location.
The radius is fully customizable via holotape (see image). You can choose from 100% (vanilla behavior), 75%, 50%, 25% (default) or 0% (the marker never disappears). This way, if you still want to follow clues and look for markers, but just make things easier, or just disable this part of the mod entirely, you can.
park medal
There aren't many of these and you end up walking up to the shopkeeper, but I still managed to walk away without noticing it. I've modified the Precious Medals quest (the giant robot Nuka-Cola bottle you get from N.I.R.A) to include markers in addition to the already existing quest log objectives.
Items not covered by this mod
SCAV! Magazines - There's already an amazing mod called The Collector's Guides, by the equally awesome Elys (of Skyrim Community Uncapper fame) that adds quest markers to more than just SCAVs! Magazines, but every Bobblehead and magazine in the game, including FH and NW DLC.
I've been using TCG for a long time and it's been a great addition to my game. Not only does it say what it says, but it's also led me …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
