MOD Optimizer:

MOD Optimizer is a tool designed to automatically convert and optimize MODs for Skyrim Special Edition, Skyrim Legends Edition, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, and Fallout 4.

Launch the tool outside of your mod manager

Click to open the directory and navigate to the folder that needs to be converted or optimized

Choose whether you are working on a single mod or multiple mods

No options are enabled by default. Activate whatever you need. In "Several Mods" mode, only minimal "necessary" mesh optimizations are available

For general use, the recommended patterns for every mod manager are:

Kortex, MO2, Vortex: one mod or several mods, depending on the intent

(Note, do not run CAO through these! Run it directly with your mod manager closed. Running CAO through your mod manager's launcher may cause unexpected VFS-related errors.)

NMM: a model

Wrye Bash: a mod (several mods only have small mod setups or install on SSD due to file indexing)

After setting the required options, click Run.

Make snacks while you wait. CAO does convert automatically, but the speed still depends on the number of files.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
