Introduction

One of the biggest shortcomings of the Academy as a faction in the Fallout universe is that they feel fundamentally disconnected from the IP's design language. For a universe that prides itself on being rooted in the retro-futurism of the mid-1900s, the Institute's sterile clean white look feels like it could be from a separate franchise entirely. While not structurally offensive, the interlocking pseudo-hexagonal panels and turquoise glass covering this location feel more akin to science fiction, with the design rooted in high science fiction (think Mass Effect, Starfield, Portal 2). The intention was not to structurally dismantle the institute but to give it a facelift reminiscent of the science fiction of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Utilizing a less harsh color palette, switching materials from generic sci-fi patterns to simple clean metals, while utilizing bold accent colors for visual contrast, the Institute ultimately feels like a faction and location rooted in the Fallout series. New high-quality textures available in 2K and 4K resolutions. There may be more to come when I get the itch, like re-texturing of props and furniture.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
