The MAS-38 was France's first official submachine gun, adopted in 1938 after a long development phase dating back to the early 1920s. The guns were forced into production in 1939 in anticipation of German aggression, and fewer than 1,000 were made before Marshal Pétain's cabinet signed an armistice with Germany to dissolve the Third French Republic and replace it with his own Vichy government. Pétain's Nazi-influenced Vichy government retained partial control of the "Free Zone" in southern France until 1942. During this period, guns were produced in the occupied north, at the Saint-Étienne manufacturing plant. Approximately 25,000 MAS-38s were built under the German occupation. After the war, production continued until 1951, at which time more than 200,000 guns were produced.

During the war, the MAS-38 was used by the French Free Army and Nazi Germany as well as Vichy. After production ceased, the gun remained in French service for some time. Many MAS-38s were among the guns captured by the Vietnamese during their defeat of French forces at Dien Bien Phu in 1954 and subsequent entry into the Vietnam War.

The MAS 38 has a very unusual design feature in that the barrel is offset from the receiver by 6 degrees. This feature is to counteract the problems inherent in firearms such as MAS with buffer tubes (like the AR-15), where the sight must be higher than the aperture in order for the shooter to obtain a comfortable sight picture. To solve this problem, the barrel is canted so that the stock can be lowered slightly, allowing for a lower sight plane. The angle at which the bolt engages the chamber also acts as a delay mechanism, as the cartridge case is at a mechanical disadvantage when trying to push the bolt at an angle. This feature also uses the Finnish Jatimatic submachine gun. The MAS-38 uses the 7.65 Longue cartridge, which is a derivative of the .30 Pedersen. It has roughly the same power as the .38 Special, so the MAS in the game requires the .38 round instead of the 7.65 Longue.

A unique variant of the MAS-38 "Le Tueur de Fascistes" or "The Fascist Killer" is also included. Its name refers to the fact that the MAS-38 was the weapon used by Italian partisans to shoot Benito Mussolini on April 28, 1945. It has its own custom texture and cannot be modified. It has a permanent legendary effect that deals more damage as the player's health decreases. For locations, see the Locations section

Location

Although very few MAS-38s make it to the United States, I have decided to incorporate this mod into the leveled list. They will start spawning at level 5 gunners and level 10 vendors.

The unique version "Le Tueur de Fascistes" can be found in the secret area of ​​Curicours, surrounded by the finest French Roquefort and Merlot. C'est bon!

Install
