Module introduction

This mod adds the Thompson M1928A1, the previous variant of the M1A1 that most people know from World War II. While the model name probably doesn't trigger anything for you, you've most likely seen this gun in every gangster/50s-70s inspired action movie you can think of (including but not limited to: Public Enemies (2009), Lawless (2012), King Kong (2005), and more recently, classics like The Untouchables (1987) and The Godfather (1972), as well as multiple appearances through a series of movies).

I (noniac, one of the original authors, the same below) think this weapon is very suitable for the game, even better than other World War II weapons that have entered the game. Vault Boy was officially drawn by Bethesda with this variant of the Thompson, but they added a clumsy, cartoonish weird weapon with a shape similar to the Thompson, which is inimitable, which is what prompted me to bring this weapon into the game in a more realistic and faithful way, with a more suitable and high-quality mesh, animations and sounds. I haven't included a firing option here, semi-auto users might be upset, but I think that would undermine the general meaning of the weapon, and the main culprit here is that Bethesda didn't add a semi-auto switch like almost all decent shooters do.

Where to find it

From level 12 and up, you can find it on a regular bodyguard. From level 20 and above, you can find it on the Gunner and Raider bosses.

Grid

The mesh here is similar to the M1928A1 model, but you can build it to an M1919 Annihilator or M1A1 with attachments. One might say that the M1A1 does not have a bolt on top of the receiver, I decided not to have the M1A1 receiver in the game due to animation issues, integrating a "slightly" changed animation tree meant an overly complex tree that I was not willing to go into, nevertheless, as I said, you can find the barrel, sights and grips that belong to this weapon and build a pretty nice look, with the exception of that bolt.

Animation

The reloading and equipment animations are ported directly from DoI, the movement and timing are great, I've always loved how it plays in games, and now you can experience it in an open apocalyptic world like Fallout 4 too. Weapons are fully animated, first and third person. The power armor is animated in first person, however, the third person reload doesn't actually move the weapon at all, there's no need to do detailed animation there. Every animation is included. Here I must point out Wardaddy's help with general animations of weapons.

sound

Weapon handling sounds are also ported from DoI, but firing sounds are custom made from a free sound library and modified to suit every different firing rate you can get.

Texture

The textures are also ported from DoI, unfortunately there are no skins, the base textures are textures straight from the game with no other tweaks to make them look good in FO4's engine. I'm not a texturist and can't make any skins. The adjustments and fixes needed to the textures were kindly done by Ricogi …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
