Heartbeat
Locky Shot
The chances of success are related to your weapon type and the perks associated with using it, your locksmith skills, and how locked your shots are.
Overall, this has a low/medium chance of success, but can easily be repeated multiple times. The risk of breaking the lock every time you open it, and losing valuable ammo in the process, is a drawback to shooting, not driving.
To shoot a lock, just take a look, stay a short distance away, aim your gun, and use the hint. Some weapons such as Freeze or Fat Man cannot be used to open locks. Additionally, the safe cannot be opened.
With Locksmith Level 3, you can repair broken locks, but it always turns them into master locks, which are harder to open.
Locky Boom
Your chances of success depend on your ranking among the demolition experts, and the level of lockdown you're trying to blast.
Every lock can be detonated, even destroyed. This has a good chance of success, but will cost you some explosives and some precious adhesive, and you'll probably end up with a stupid billard ball once you finally open it. Is it really worth it? Your call.
To detonate the lock, crouch in front of it and get close, and you'll have a prompt to detonate it. If you do not have the appropriate explosive equipped in the grenade/mine slot, or do not have adhesive, a warning will appear in the message box.
Oh, obviously, it's going to explode. Don't stay here! Additionally, it will alert nearby enemies.
Rock kick
The chance of success is related to your strength, but it has very little effect if you're not wearing powerful armor.
Kicking them only opens the door. You can try as many times as you like until the door opens. But if you're not wearing strong armor, you'll slowly hurt your legs. If you do wear power armor... then your fusion core is going to have to give up a bit of power.
The probability of success without PA is very low and with PA it is moderate. There's no big downside when it comes to survival, except that you might spend a few minutes kicking doors if the lock level is a bit high.
Kick the door, stand in front of it, close enough, and draw your weapon.
Locky Picker
Not exactly an entirely new feature, but for the sake of consistency (and to remove silly gating), you can now try to open any lock, regardless of its level (except those that require a key, terminal, or other fancy stuff).
Locksmith perks do not grant you access to new locks, but rather increase your chances of opening locks of the corresponding level.
Overall, lockpicking is slightly more effective than vanilla if you don't have the right perks, and slightly easier if you do.
Compatibility and known issues
All potential compatibility issues and known issues are detailed in the readme file. Please read this before reporting a bug.
Before you ask, yes, it is 100% compatible with locksmiths. A door/container locked with a locksmith can be reopened by the locksmith (i.e. using the key that locked it), and other locks can be opened using Locky Bastard's various features.
configuration
Each formula uses one or more multipliers, which can be edited using FO4Edit to adjust the odds of success yourself. I wanted to do this via a simple INI file, but Beth kinda forgot to give us the possibility to read the INI settings, sorry ^^
If you want the mod to work exactly as you want it to, you're going to have to get your hands dirty. This is how I first learned modding, so don't be afraid and give it a try, there are some instructions included in the readme.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
