Kabuto VR
about:
Kabuto: VR is an immersive Power Armor helmet replacement for "Fallout 4 VR," replacing the bland transparent Power Armor HUD with a fully enclosed helmet based on the game's T-60 helmet mesh - with a bit of "artistic license."
This mod is primarily aimed at immersion seeking players. Note that just like a real helmet, it will limit your field of vision and you will feel more closed in.
For those players looking for a less immersive Power Armor experience, I offer 3 additional versions of the mod. They are all standalone downloads and you don't need the master file to use them - choose whichever suits your play style best, or of course it's okay not to have one!
Helmet type:
Main download: A full-face helmet experience with glass covering your eyes. This is by far the most immersive option.
Optional Download 1: Complete helmet available, but without glass. For those players who find glass a bit limiting.
Optional Download 2: Provides the original Power Armor interface, but without transparency and re-adds lighting effects (yes, it dims at night) and glass for extra immersion
Optional Download 3: Offers the same features as Optional Download 2 but without the glass.
Install:
Important - You must follow these steps
- Configure Fallout4Custom.ini to allow loose file loading by adding (or modifying) the following line:
[Word]
bInvalidateOlderFiles = 1
sResourceDataDirsFinal =
sVRResourceStartUpArchiveList =
sVRResourceIndexFileList =
sResourceStartUpArchiveList = Fallout4 - Startup.ba2,Fallout4 - Shaders.ba2,Fallout4 - Interface.ba2,Fallout4_VR - Shaders.ba2
sResourceIndexFileList = Fallout4 - Textures1.ba2,Fallout4 - Textures2.ba2,Fallout4 - Textures3.ba2,

Now proceed to install the mod as follows:
- Install the mod via the mod manager or place the folder in the extracted .zip into the "data folder".
- Open C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Fallout4VR\Plugins.txt and add the following line above all other entries:
- Fallout4_VR.esm
NOTE: You may need to redo this step when adding other mods or using LOOT to organize your addon list.
- Open C:\Users\%username%\Documents\My Games\Fallout4VR\Fallout4Custom.ini

Note: The [VRUI] settings above are my "recommended settings" as they are placed on the Vive Pro, so you may find the dials difficult to read or the overall positioning not to your taste - this means I don't recommend using the default settings so always use the above as a base and adjust them. If you find some settings you'd like to share, please add them to the Posts section and I'll add them somewhere on this page for others to reference.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
