About this mod Machine translation

Are you bothered by the pointy nose and boxy chin/neck that vanilla faces bring? Then this mod is for you. A new set of high polygon facial meshes with fully functional player character morphs. Read the instructions completely to learn how to install and use.

Required mods:

LooksMenu

How to use (for player characters):

  • Install via NMM or manually, like any other mod. If you're worried about load order space, use lightweight ESP, which behaves like ESL and doesn't take up any space in your load order. By default, the optional companion plugin is Light ESP.
  • For new games, simply reselect any default presets (before customizing) and load a new mesh, provided the default presets are not overwritten by another mod.
  • For existing saves, some manual preset editing is required as the F4 LooksMenu does not seem to have functionality similar to Skyrim's "Face Part" slider (please correct me if I'm mistaken);
  • Load your game and save your current preset in LooksMenu, giving it a recognizable name.
  • Find saved presets in your F4 installation under.... Data\F4SE\Plugins\F4EE\Presets
  • Open it in a text editor (Notepad++ is recommended here), find and change the following lines:

For female characters:

"Fallout4.esm | 0CFB3F" is changed to "HiPolyFaces.esp | 000800"

For male characters:

"Fallout4.esm | 01EEBB" is changed to "HiPolyFaces.esp | 000801"

  • Once done, save it.
  • Return to the game and load the newly saved preset.

You should see an immediate difference, especially in the nose and chin area. If you are still unsure, use the console command "TWF" to verify.

Polygon count has been kept at a reasonable level, so there shouldn't be any performance issues even on weaker systems. Optional files included for companions to use new head mesh (default appearance only, includes UFO4P fixes). If you want to make other changes, use FO4Edit.

How to use (for NPCs)

LooksMenu method:

Just repeat the above steps for the player character on the NPC. May not always work as expected. Not recommended.

FO4Edit method (recommended):

To do this, you need to know how to use FO4Edit. This is a basic list of instructions, use at your own risk.

1 - Open the plugin containing the character you want to edit in FO4Edit.

2 - Expand the list and find the NPC record under "Non-Player Characters (Actors)", copy it as an override into another plugin if you don't want to modify the original plugin.

3 - Scroll down to the "Head Parts" section and find FemaleHeadHuman/MaleHeadHuman in the list.

4 - Replace the corresponding FemaleHeadHuman-HiPoly / MaleHeadHuman-HiPoly with this mod's plugin. (Example; Header: "FemaleHeadHuman"FemaleHeadHuman"[HDPT:000CFB3F]" should be changed to "FemaleHeadHuman_HiPoly"FemaleHeadHuman-HiPoly"[HDPT:XX000800]")

5 - When finished, save and exit FO4Edit and activate the plugin (if you created a new one). It should be done.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
