What does this mod do?

Basically, the entire game, DLC and CC content have higher sound quality and less audio compression.

This mod uses the PS4 audio as the source, no AI or other processing.

Explain in detail

"Fallout 4" is a game released in 2015. Therefore, to reduce installation size, Bethesda uses audio compression. Audio compression is quite strong. You can clearly hear compression artifacts.

The PS4 version has better sound quality because it uses Sony's proprietary audio format.

This mod is a port of PS4 audio to PC. It takes up more storage space, but it's definitely worth it.

If you're asking yourself: "Haven't I already seen this mod?". Yes, this is the third and final chapter in my Hi-Fi Audio modification series. It replaces sound effects (footsteps, wind, creature sounds, etc.) with higher quality versions. This is the least affected of the three photos, but the difference is still clearly audible.

Files containing sound samples are available under misc files. You can download it, listen to the sample, and decide if you want to download the mod.

Image comparison

Above is a dynamic spectrogram that visually demonstrates these differences. As you can see, the original version is missing a lot of data (black blocky patches). And any sound above 12kHz will be completely cut off.

This is a different spectrogram. Here, red represents the original audio, and green represents the audio of this mod. As you can see, more audio data is saved.

Install

Simply put.

If you have all the DLC, download the main file and install it like any other mod.

If you don't have the DLC or only own some of the DLC, please download the corresponding files through the optional download.

Complex version. (if you hate .esps)

The .esp file in this module only needs to load a .ba2 file. So if you want, you can add them directly to SResourceArchiveList2= in the .ini file. Then delete the .esps. This will cause the game to load the archive without the .esp file.

To do this, you need to add SResourceArchiveList2= at the end of the archive name in Fallout4.ini or Fallout4Custom.ini.

So, if I use the All in One version, my guilds are

"SResourceArchiveList2=Fallout4 - Animations.ba2, HiFiSoundsAllinOne - Main.ba2" is displayed like this,

If it's not the All in One version, you just add the names of these archives. You are smart and will figure it out!

Some notes

This mod is the third and final in my series of high fidelity audio mods. All low quality audio is now replaced.

This mod works on all versions of the game - old gen, new gen, AE.

There should be no incompatibility issues with other mods. Just make sure to place the mod that covers the original music lower than this mod in the load order.

Sounds from multiple titles are included in All-in-One and the base game files. You don't need to own Creations for this mod to work properly. I thought it would be best to include the creator's files since they are only a few megabytes in size. .esp files are marked as lightweight. So your .esp limit will not be exceeded.

This mod is different from the other two. We still have the problem that .xwm doesn't support high quality audio in mono. If you want to learn more, visit the High Fidelity Sound Project page. So, I decided to encode the mono sound in .wav format (stereo still uses .xwm format). Yes, with this method, the sound file takes up more space because .wav is an uncompressed format. Incidentally, this is the same approach Bethesda used with Skyrim Special Edition. This means that you cannot unpack Fallout 4 - Sounds.ba2 (or the DLC file), then discard the mod's files, replace the files to their destination, and then pack everything back into Fallout 4 - Sounds.ba2 (like you would do with the High Definition Music Project), because some of the …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
