Frontend: Baka Framework
Handheld Geiger Counter Description
Adds a separate handheld Geiger counter that shows how much radiation damage you've taken in the last second. This mod also disables the original Geiger Counter sound and plays a copy when the counter is equipped (so any sound replacer mod will work and is actually recommended).
This means you can walk through radiation hazards without a counter, it won't make any noise, but if you're wondering about radiation you can find out.
I (Kewin568, the original author, the same below) have some ideas for expansion modules, but I don't intend to do so until the counter has more use cases. Currently, Bethesda has made it easy to spot radiation hazards without the tool, so it's only used for immersion. However, I'm looking for ways to make it more useful.
Require
The only hard requirement for this mod is the Baka framework.
However, the mod has some soft requirements, including:
FIS
Classic Radiation Poisoning
Not a great not terrible Geiger sound - just a preference
FallUI - or similar remove rad hud widget
Practical information
Two different types can be made at the Chemistry Station; hand-held or belt-mounted.
The tight strap simply allows you to passively hear the Geiger, takes up no slots, and doesn't change your appearance.
The counter lags 1s when taking readings.
Since this mod uses the same principle as Casio watches, it replaces textures every second, which can be laborious on some systems.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
