Gets you sweet armor and makes gunners less squishy at lower levels

Prerequisite: Gunner Armor Expansion Pack:

So, I (Utherien, the original author, the same below) really like EvTital's latest magnificent work, but feel that it is too easy to obtain for such a good work. Also, when you're in survival mode and you're faced with a bunch of gunners wearing 100+ armor levels and you're only level 5, it can be challenging.

With permission from EvTital, I uploaded my own vision for armor implementation.

What this mod does (TL;DR: Basically balances the new armor around the vanilla combat armor and adds a progressive leveling system for you and your gunner):

  • Significantly nerf the base armor while adding an equal amount of energy protection - for example, the torso is reduced to 25/25 (which is a moderately upgraded vanilla combat armor torso + 2 leg armors, as it takes up both the torso and leg slots);
  • Add crafting requirements to all parts and add upgrades that affect balance (such as backpack carrying weight bonus);
  • Add new modifications to all sections - levels (called "CPA Device Upgrade"). Higher level gunners will have a higher level of protection, which will make them buffed later in the game and as weak as the original in the early game.

Example of levels for a torso part:

Level 1 (similar to light combat armor): 35 armor, 35 energy protection;

Level 2 (similar to medium combat armor): 55 armor, 55 energy protection; Level 2R: same, but adds 10 radiation protection, slightly heavier;

Tier 3 (similar to Heavy Combat Armor): 75 armor, 75 energy protection; Tier 3R: Same, but adds 25 radiation protection, more weight;

Tier 4 (similar to Far Harbor's upgraded Marine armor): 95 armor, 95 energy protection; Tier 4R - added 50 radiation protection, heavier weight.

  • Fixed some minor bugs in the original allocation system - namely the allocation of shoulder armor and allocation to senior gunners - captain and above.
  • Rearranged vanilla's distribution system to accommodate all changes and make different classes of gunners spawn with different levels.

Below is a list of levels and tiers:

Gunslinger (NPC Level 8) - Always level 1, regardless of PC level;

Gunslinger Conscript (NPC Level 14) - Always level 1, regardless of the PC's level;

Gunslinger Private (NPC Level 22) - Up to 2 levels, depending on PC level;

Gunner Corporal (NPC Level 30) - Up to 2 levels, depending on PC level;

Gunner Sergeant (NPC level 38) - up to level 3, depending on PC level;

Gunner Lieutenant (NPC level 46) - up to level 3, depending on PC level;

Gunner Captain (NPC level 58) - no less than level 3, can have level 4 if your PC level is high enough;

Gunner Major (NPC level 70) - no lower than level 3, can reach level 4 if your PC level is high enough;

Gunner Colonel (NPC Level 82) - Always level 4, regardless of PC level;

Gunner Brigadier (NPC Level 94) - Always level 4 regardless of the PC's level.

So, considering that level 4 is not only close to the original 100 armor rating, but also has the same amount of energy resistance, and a chance to gain an additional 50 radiation resistance, you really don't want to mess with the Colonel and the Brigadier if your level isn't high enough.

  • Oh, and a chameleon effect has been added to the Ghillie shoulder pads, but you can disable it in the Ghillie object modification menu in the armor workbench - for free!

Install

Easy-peasy lemon squeezy, it's just two ESP files, install using your mod manager or manually, whatever works for you.

Prerequisites

EvTital's Glorious Gunner Armor expansion pack, obviously. That's what this mod is all about.

Known issues/incompatibilities

Not compatible with any mods that change Gunner Armor Expansion ARMO, OMOD, LVLI entries. Yes, this includes the Functional Nightvision mod. At least there's no compatibility patch in case someone makes one. Or if I could have some extra free time again, maybe I would be successful in the future.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
