Gamma Overhaul - Improved Radium Rifles and Gamma Improved laser guns and gamma guns
IMO, the base radium rifle has a lot of wasted potential, since in practice it's a weaker battle rifle compared to radium's traditional mode, and it requires investing in Gun Nut and Science to upgrade.
So I added some gamma receivers to completely overhaul the radium rifle, note the regular receivers are unaffected so you can still use vanilla
arms.
These receivers change the damage from ballistic/radiation exposure to energy/radiation exposure, plus some additional pure radiation damage like the Gamma Gun. The projectile becomes a smaller version of the gamma gun blast, or the exact same thing if you use a heavy receiver, which means the shot is now
There are a few effects that explode. Of course, the ammo supply changed from .45 to gamma rounds. To maintain balance, energy damage is half the ballistic damage. Still, the gamma receiver is very powerful, and unlike most of the game's weapons, the automatic version is actually superior due to the added ray damage. The extra investment required to upgrade it and the scarcity/high price of ammo are what maintain this balance.
The Gamma Gun now has some base energy damage (Electronic Signal Carrier modules are unaffected) so the weapon isn't useless against non-human enemies, and the Children of the Atom won't be a joke if you're wearing a hazmat suit. Their ammo capacity has been increased from 8 rounds to 16 rounds. Lorenzo's Artifact and Zeta Gun remain the same, but will benefit from new base energy damage and ammo capacity.
All Gamma explosion effects now deal some radiation damage to themselves; previously only direct fire would increase radar, and the explosion itself would only deal pure radiation damage.
New laser rifle receiver:
Gamma automatic receiver
Gamma Boosted automatic receiver
Gamma maximizing automatic receiver
Gamma receiver
Gamma Boosted Receiver
Gamma maximizing receiver
Gamma Heavy Duty Automatic Receiver
Gamma Heavy Boosted Automatic Receiver
Gamma Heavy Duty Maximizing Automatic Receiver
Gamma Heavy Receiver
Gamma Heavy Boosted Receiver
Gamma Heavy Duty Maximizing Receiver
All heavy variants are heavier (obviously), fire a wider blast (same as the vanilla gamma gun) and have more pure radiation damage, but the energy and radiation exposure damage are the same as the light variants. The receiver has the same characteristics and material requirements as its ballistic counterpart.
As an interesting note, while making the mod I noticed that Radium Rifle's advanced receiver is called "ammoconversion" in the game files, so it's possible Bethesda originally made something similar to this mod, but it got cut.
This mod requires the Far Harbor DLC. It shouldn't conflict with mods that edit the radium rifle, since I don't have access to the base weapon, but it will conflict with mods that change the gamma gun, its projectiles, and corresponding explosion effects.
I'll stand alone the Gamma Radium Rifle mod (without the Gamma Gun adjustment) if anyone asks.
IMO, the base Radium Rifle has a lot of wasted potential, as in practice it is a weaker Combat Rifle with the Irradiated legendary mod slapped to it and which requires investment in both Gun Nut and Science to be upgraded.
So I added in some gamma receivers which completely overhaul the Radium Rifle, note that the regular receivers are untouched so you can still use the vanilla
weapon.
These receivers change the damage from ballistic/radiation exposure to energy/radiation exposure plus some extra pure radiation damage like the Gamma Gun has. The projectiles become a smaller version of the Gamma Gun' s blasts, or the exact same if you're using the Heavy Receivers, which means that shots now
have a small area of effect explosion. And of course the ammo supply changes from.45 to gamma rounds. To keep it balanced, the energy damage is half of what the ballistic damage would be. Still, the gamma receivers are very pow …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
