background
The "Battle Rifle" is the big brother to the ubiquitous "Assault Rifle." Originally fielded by the German Army after World War II, the battle rifle was quickly adopted by armies, mercenaries, freedom fighters and anyone else around the world who could get their hands on .308 ammunition. Extremely reliable, battle rifles were popular firearms in the United States before World War I, and although never "officially" adopted by the Army, many of them entered American service in one capacity or another. It is said that some of these rifles can still be found today at military installations that are inaccessible to ordinary wilderness folk.
A "police sniper rifle" is a highly specialized offshoot of the standard battle rifle. Despite having similar looks and mechanics, the police sniper rifle is in a league of its own compared to its traditional brethren. Developed specifically for counter-terrorism operations, police sniper rifles are expensive and highly sought after tools by police departments around the world. Police sniper rifles were used extensively to suppress Canadian resistance fighters throughout the 1970s. Police sniper rifles are a rare sight in the wasteland these days, and the few who do carry one are unlikely to share it with you.
Gameplay, world implementation
The Battle Rifle is a high-damage mid-to-late game rifle that you'll first find in the Gunslinger boss and in the Specialty Gun Shop at level 15 (very rare). After level 20, you'll start seeing these rifles more frequently, primarily in the hands of gunners. In later levels, rifles are also found on attackers. In general, you'll find battle rifles in the following groups: Militia, Gunners, Raiders, Diamond City Security, Operators, Backpack Raiders, Rust Demons, Railroad Agents, Brotherhood Soldiers, Trappers, and most everywhere that sells guns. This weapon has been implemented in a balanced way and will not appear until the player reaches the appropriate level.
The Police Sniper Rifle is a specialized version of the Battle Rifle that can take you into the late game. It is much rarer than its standard sibling and won't appear until level 25-30 at the earliest. You can find this rifle in the hands of gunner snipers, railroad agents, operators, and specialty gun vendors.
These weapons now come in four unique variants, the Thunderclap is a unique variant of the police sniper rifle with a unique Gauss barrel, it's an advanced weapon and is a reward for completing particularly difficult battles with robots. The "Execution Result" is a rapid-fire, block-suppressed variant of the battle rifle, carried by a disgruntled gunslinger mini-boss named Captain Williams. "Redemption" returns from the original mod and is found in the same place, but its stats and attachments have been updated, and it now has a unique long-range integrally suppressed barrel. Finally, the "HEAT" is a unique incendiary bullet-throwing battle rifle found in the hands of the new Forge mini-boss "Hestie" (before you report a bug, she is not located in the Saugus Steelworks).
Both battle rifles and police sniper rifles are hand-placed in various world space locations in the base game and its dlc. This is done in a way that keeps the game balanced, meaning you won't find these weapons placed anywhere where lower level players might stumble upon them immediately.
Over 30 new attachments have been added and fully implemented into modcols, meaning they will be included with any battle rifle or police sniper rifle you find naturally during the course of the game.
Compatibility and Q&A
This was a big project and I wanted to re-implement G3 into the wasteland in a way that made it feel like part of the …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
