About this mod Machine translation
Introduction: What is FROST?
FROST is the successor to the much-anticipated and much-hated survival simulator DUST: New Vegas. FROST's goal is to transform the world of Fallout 4 into a free-form survival game with an emphasis on lore and visual storytelling. In the years following the Great War of 2077, you'll see new, alternate lore, new enemies to challenge, and many overhauled game systems. Many areas of the game world also received a visual overhaul.
In FROST, the goal is not to complete quests and join a faction. Most vanilla NPCs have been removed or changed beyond recognition. Your only mission is to survive, no matter how long.
Install
- If you are new to Fallout 4 modding, please go here to set up your .ini file first. This is crucial for modifications.
-Extract FROST.rar into your main Fallout 4 directory (or use a mod manager like the rest of us).
- Extract the contents of the FROST start save file to the save game folder (C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\Save by default).
- Alternatively, download the Vault 111 Quick Start and use that save.
- v0.4 and v0.5 require Far Harbor, Nuka World and Automatron. v0.2, v0.21, v0.3. Ask for Far Harbor. v0.11 and before does not require any DLC.
You must start your game using the save provided in the download section (unless you choose to use the Alternate Start mod and it's so bad you can survive outdoors without a gas mask (more on that below)). But please note that not all Alternate Start modules are supported. I don't recommend playing FROST on your current save or trying to install a new game using FROST.
Incompatibilities and load order
-FROST is a complete overhaul of your gaming experience, and I mean that in total. Pretty much anything that changes stats, level lists, weather, or NPCs will conflict. Place FROST at the very bottom of the load order to minimize these conflicts.
- It is recommended that you disable all other DLC except those required for playback, otherwise you will experience perk and workbench conflicts.
-FROST is not fully compatible with Alternate Start mods. Some may work, depending on how the start itself is handled, but if you spawn in an outdoor location without a gas mask, you'll die quickly from exposure. I don't recommend this for your first time playing. You will die soon.
- Wasteland gas masks are partially compatible. Be sure to use this patch.
- Four seasons - If you don't like the snow texture of FROST, winter is a good choice.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
