FO4 stereoscopic space correction (updated)
Fixed directional volume drop issue in Fallout 4 via topology-aware X3DAudio correction. Correct stereo and true 2.1 channels while safely preserving native 5.1/7.1 output. Contains the construction of the next generation and the old generation, integrated in one FOMOD.

Version 0.3.0
A new bug has been added to address the bug in Fallout 4 where the camera is rotated too fast or the screen is panned too high or too low. The audio will jump between the left and right speakers, causing clipping noise. (Still continuing to test).
FO4 three-dimensional space correction
FO4 Stereo Space Correction is a lightweight native F4SE plug-in designed to correct directional volume loss and positional audio inconsistencies in Fallout 4.
In the affected configurations, positional sound is noticeably quieter, depending on which direction the player is facing. A fixed sound source may sound weaker when it is directly in front of you than when it is placed to one side.
This plugin corrects X3DAudio's positional output matrix at runtime while preserving the game's original distance, position, and ambient audio behavior.
What does it fix?
Orientation-dependent volume decrease
Sound becomes unusually quiet when facing the source of the sound
Uneven stereo positioning energy
Perceived volume is inconsistent when rotating around a stationary sound source
Error handling of real 2.1 output in previous versions
Output topology support
Version 0.2.1 introduces output topology awareness.
This plugin can capture Windows/X3DAudio's speaker channel masks and apply different behaviors based on the actual audio configuration.
2.0 / Stereo / Headphones
Apply constant power left and right corrections
Maintain positional movement between stereo channels
Corrected initial directional volume loss issue
Real 2.1
Apply corrections to front left and front right only
Keep the low-frequency dropout/woofer channel untouched
5.1
Preserve original native X3DAudio surround matrix
Unable to collapse center, rear, or surround channels into stereo
7.1
Preserve original native X3DAudio surround matrix
Does not change native surround routing
Unknown or custom multi-channel layout
Use secure passthrough
The original X3DAudio matrix is retained instead of guessing speaker layout
Working principle
Fallout 4 uses Microsoft's X3DAudio system to calculate positional audio.
X3DAudio generates a matrix describing how many positional tones each output speaker should receive.
FO4 stereoscopic space fixes hooking related X3DAudio functions at runtime.
Observed when there is X3DAudioInitialize so that the plugin can identify the real speaker topology via SpeakerChannelMask.
X3DAudioCalculate then allows Microsoft's regular position calculations to be performed first.
After calculation:
Stereo outputs receive constant power correction
True 2.1 also accepts the same FL/FR correction while maintaining the low-frequency effect.
Native 5.1 and 7.1 output remains intact
Unknown multi-channel layout falls back to secure passthrough
If speaker topology information is not available, the plug-in only applies the established correction to the two-channel output. Multichannel output remains unchanged.
The goal is to resolve location volume issues without replacing or flattening Fallout 4's sound system.
Mods don’t change anything
FO4 Stereoscopic Space Repair does not replace Fallout 4 audio files.
It does not intentionally remove or overwrite:
distance attenuation
position direction
Doppler calculation
ambient audio
reverberation
Occlusion
sound category
music
interface audio
native surround positioning

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
