★Installation★
You can choose between two versions - Full and Lite. The full version includes a simple in-game hotkey manager that allows you to assign hotkey slots and change the assignment of equipment parts. It handles the equipping of stapled items for you, and checks to make sure you have the item in your inventory before equipping it. When you start a game, the Hotkey Manager will be added to the AID section of your inventory.
The Lite version doesn't add anything to the game other than enabling hotkey support. You can then manually configure the hotkeys by editing Hotkeys.ini.
full
Use your mod manager, or download the mod and extract it to your Data directory.
Lite version
Download and unzip the mod, then open install_hotkeys.cmd to put the correct files in the correct location.
Lite (manual)
Navigate to <Documents>\My Games\Fallout4\ and open Fallout4Custom.ini. Add bUseConsoleHotkeys=1 and sConsoleINI=Data\Hotkeys.ini under the [Menu] section heading. If it doesn't exist, create it.
Now copy the Hotkeys.ini from the mod into the Fallout 4 Data directory, then copy the rest of the files.
★How to use★
By default, two hotkeys are included with the installation, so make sure you have set the hotkeys correctly. In game, press F2 to toggle menu visibility and F3 to toggle the free-flight camera.
If you have the full version installed, the Z, G, B, Y, H, N, U keys will be bound by default to slots 1-7 in the hotkey manager (not the favorites menu!). Simply assign items via the included hotkey manager and the corresponding keys will activate them.
Shift-1 to Shift-10 are also bound to slots 1-10.
Read on to learn how to reconfigure key bindings to any key you want.
Use the hotkey manager
If you have the full version installed, Hotkey Manager will be added to the "Auxiliary" section of your inventory. Use this to assign devices/items to hotkey slots.
To select an item to bind, select the hotkey slot in the Hotkey Manager and select the item to bind from your inventory. If the item has been successfully bound, you will receive a notification.
Hotkey Manager is used to manage which items are restricted to which slots - to change keybindings, see next section.
Add/modify hotkeys/Hotkeying console commands
After installation is complete
☢Hotkeys.ini will be created in the Data folder. Your hotkeys are saved here. You can edit this file to add hotkeys.
☢Hotkey console commands will also be enabled. You can register new hotkeys in the game using console command hotkeys.
Format: hotkey <key to be bound> <function to be bound>
example:
Hotkey F2 tfc
Hotkey B tm
Hotkey Shift-1 tgm
To set a key binding for an item bound using the hotkey manager, type: hotkey <key to bind> hot <hotkey slot>
For example. Hotkey Z hot 1 binds the Z key to slot 1 in Hotkey Manager.
Delete hotkey
Console command: hotkey <unbind key>
For example. Unbind F2 and type the hotkey F2
Please note that if you assign a hotkey to something already bound in the game, the hotkey takes precedence! This gives you a way to override some of the default functionality, such as replacing VATS with Bullet Time.
★Restrictions★
Variants of unique items can only be bound to one hotkey. Variants are pieces of equipment with the same form ID but different mods. For example. Light combat armor and heavy combat armor. Since variants have the same ID and are indistinguishable, if you bind a variant to a different hotkey, the game will always equip the one you most recent …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
