Version 1.4.2 updated on December 21st:

Old generation or next generation users please use the standard version.

Users of AE or the latest version, please use the AE version.

Version 1.4.1 updated on July 11th:

Fixed potential miner slot lock issue on next-gen version.

Next-gen version users no longer need compatibility patches.

If you are using the next-gen version, make sure to remove any previously installed mining compatibility patches.

Updated on June 27, 2025:

Version 1.4 updates:

Seven new graphics cards have been spotted in the Commonwealth, including models from the GeForce 5000 and Radeon 9000 series.

MCM support added. This menu can be found under “Commonwealth Mining”.

You can now adjust the mining rate multiplier via MCM.

A VGA-shaped icon now appears above the boss container containing the graphics card. This feature can be disabled in MCM settings.

NOTE: Due to the way the icon system is implemented, updating mods during gameplay may cause icons to not appear in areas you have already visited. Likewise, enabling or disabling icon settings will not affect previously visited locations until the area is reset.

Next-Gen users no longer need to install a compatibility patch - the mod will now run automatically, but with limited functionality.

⚠️ However, when updating to this version, you must remove any previously installed mining compatibility patches!

The Chinese address will be updated on December 24, 2025:

This mod allows you to build a Cap Miner, a mining rig that mines bottle caps by installing a graphics card in a settlement. You can collect graphics cards found in "Boss Containers" in most dungeons and install them on your mining rig.

Note: The design of this mod assumes you previously installed Generator Mods, which provide significantly higher power output. Without such a mod, the power consumption required to run this mod would be too high to use, as the default vanilla generator provides very limited power.

Version 1.3 Update:

  • VGA vending machine has been added under RESOURCES > MISCELLANEOUS. It sells random graphics cards for 5,000 caps.
  • Next-gen version users must now install the main file and the compatibility patches located in the optional files.
  • Additional miners now cost 20,000 caps, with OS prices increasing by 10,000 caps each time (applies from new game onwards).
  • Graphics cards named '4090' now weigh 30.

This mod is about more than just building mining equipment and collecting bottle caps. To start mining, you must first build a Cap Miner and then collect a graphics card. There are 35 different types of cards, divided into 6 tiers, that can be found in dungeons. After collecting these cards, you can install them into your miner to start the mining process.

**Cap miner** can be found in the Stronghold Workshop under the Resources > M Miscellaneous tab. Cheaper mining equipment can only be crafted once per game. Expensive mining equipment cannot be used immediately after crafting, and requires a large amount of caps to activate.

**Graphics** can be found in "Boss Containers" located at the end of dungeons, usually near the final area of each dungeon. There are 6 different levels of graphics cards: Low-end, Entry, MainStream, Performance, High-end and Flagship, each with different mining performance and power consumption. The mining efficiency and energy usage of these 35 graphics cards vary depending on their grade.

There is an overclocking option for mining rigs that, when activated, allows you to mine more caps, but it consumes more power and results in lower performance power consumption.

To install or remove a graphics card from a mining rig or access the overclocking menu, you must first discon …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
