About this mod:

If you're missing customizable facial animations, or just getting proper head tracking (eye tracking) from slow-motion VATS cameras, this mod sounds like it might be interesting.

It adds more RPG elements to the game by enabling head tracking and allowing you to choose your character from a variety of facial animations. In the original VATS, head tracking (eye tracking) was not available and the player character just looked "somewhere". Additionally, head tracking now works with non-FaceGen standard characters (in other words, non-humans) such as super mutants, robots, feral ghouls, bloat flies, etc. (in the original, head tracking only worked with humans).

The mod supports multiple animations, each appearing in different situations based on a multi-level system.

  • "Basic level" (if not in the killing move and not too close; default expression: aim, focus)
  • Killing moves (amusing, happy faces might just fit in)
  • Too Close (if you are very close to the target, you can choose a separate animation; perhaps nervous because it is a "dangerous move")
  • Gender (different expressions of female and male goals; likes to be flirtatious with girls and smug with men; available at all levels)

Available facial animations:

0: Anger/Hate

1.Happy/Interesting

2.Psychological/sinister smile

  • Aim/Focus
  • frivolous

5.Confusion/Confusion

6.disgust

  • Nervous
  • Surprise/"Think about it"
  • Friendliness and confidence
  • Complacent/condescending
  • Professionals

Options:

Mod settings can be changed at any time (even in-game), just like mods can be turned off. The .ini file is located in Fallout 4/Data/F4SE. No need to "refresh" .ini. The mod detects changes at runtime.

VATSEmotion.ini:

[Settings]

bModActive=1 (0 if inactive)

iFaceAnimF=3 (3 is the index of facial animation, see above. Not used when killing moves and too close; female targets)

iFaceAnimM=3 (for male and genderless VATS targets)

iKillMoveFaceAnimF=1 (in Kill Move; female target)

iKillMoveFaceAnimM=1 (in Kill Move; male target)

bHeadtrackingOn=1 (whether your character is looking into the target's "eyes")

iTargetTooCloseFaceAnim=7 (you can choose a different animation if you are too close to the VATS target)

iTargetTooCloseDistance=250 (determines what is too close; 250 game units is ~4 yards or ~3.6 meters) bIgnoreTooCloseInKillMove=1 (whether to ignore "too close" behavior in kill moves)

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
