About this mod Machine translation
your personal diary
This mod gives you a player diary that you can enter!
You can find your personal holographic disc in the living room of your old Sanctuary Hills home.
It sat on a shelf collecting dust for two hundred years, but hey - RobCo technology is built to last.
Your personal journal can be plugged into any terminal or your Pip-Boy, where you can create and title your own journal entries.
Everyone seems to have a journal of some kind - Piper has her terminal, Dad has a mini-log, and even the attackers keep journals.
Now you can too.
things you can do
- take notes
- Make a to-do list
- Remind yourself which settlements are helpful (fiction)
- Chart your journey across the Commonwealth
-Write the backstory of each of your characters so that when you load them up in a month, you'll know exactly where you left off.
- Go on new adventures.
- Ultimately, whatever you want to write about. This is your diary.
about
Your journal entries are stored in your save - if you have multiple characters, each character can have its own journal.
Your journal entries are important. Please - back up your saves. I've run dozens of tests programmatically creating tens of thousands of pages out of hundreds of journal entries. I have made every effort to ensure that your entry is safe and secure. But it’s in your best interest to protect your precious creations.
I've been working on this for a while and I'm excited to finally make it available to everyone. Because Fallout 4 doesn't have native text input support for holotapes, in fact, Terminal, I had to write the input and focus managers from scratch. In fact, the entire vanilla terminal interface was so lacking that I added a command bar to make journal management easier. I hope you like what you see.
notes
Your diary is a unique holotape. Don't use the console to spawn another one! If you have lost your holotape somewhere, enter the console command
cqf journal giveitems lets you move journals into your inventory from anywhere in the world.
Using a gamepad? You need to unplug the gamepad before typing. Fallout 4 stops emitting keystrokes when a gamepad is connected, so don't unplug it just yet, unfortunately.
This is version 1.0! I want to tell you that your journal will be saved as soon as you leave the page and return to the entry view. Please "save" regularly! If you encounter any errors, please report them.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
