New mechanism

  • Your flashlight/night vision/thermal imaging will heat up when turned on and cool down when turned off. If they overheat, they will shut down or emit radiation (user choice).
  • They now use fusion batteries for power. If fusion cells run out, they shut down or emit radiation.
  • Stealth fix allowing NPCs to correctly detect you in the dark when you turn on your flashlight. An extended standalone version of this fix is available here.
  • Compatibility patches for most night vision/thermal vision mods.
  • All features can be individually disabled and adjusted in MCM.
  • It should work out of the box with all other mods, including Pip-Boy Flashlight, Weapon Light mods, etc. •

Optional patch to enable these features via night vision mod (currently supported on West Tek and XM2010).

  • Custom sounds based on Casio watches to indicate flashlight status.
  • In Workshop mode and Power Armor, functionality is automatically disabled, but can be re-enabled in the MCM.

set up

Most flashlights and night vision goggles left in the Commonwealth were pre-war designed devices designed to run on micro-fission batteries. Since these cells were long extinct, some ingenious wastelanders began modifying their flashlights to run on fusion cells.

The first problem they encountered was that fusion cells are optimized for laser weapons and are designed to release energy very quickly; forcing them to release it slowly would cause the cells to heat up. Once its maximum operating temperature is exceeded, the battery quickly becomes unstable and begins to emit radiation. You may prefer to have the flashlight turn off automatically to avoid this situation.

Another problem is that once the battery is depleted below the safe minimum charge threshold, continued use of the battery results in the same instability and radiated emissions, or power outage.

Therefore, safe flashlight operation requires you to always be alert to two things:

  • Monitor the flashlight temperature and listen for audible warnings. Turn off the lights periodically to allow them to cool.
  • Keep the light supplied with a charged fusion battery.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
