Smart Gun Destruction

-Destroy enemies loudly-

describe

In the original game, mini-nukes and rockets could sometimes destroy limbs, but nothing could destroy the torso. To make matters worse, if I fire a nuke from orbit while I'm running around in the rubble, their bodies are usually intact and appear to be unaffected. After delving into this immersive destruction, I discovered that in the original game, it didn't make sense that you could only destroy an NPC's torso if you had the Bloody Mayhem perk, and then if you lightly hit a guy on the foot, his head would fall off and his body would explode.

What to include

This mod adds a new level of destruction and immersion. Basically, big guns like rocket launchers and mini-nukes (all big gun heavy explosive weapons) will always destroy the body in various destructive ways, with very few exceptions. Either the limbs are blown off and explode, or the torso explodes into a thousand pieces, turning the body into mush. Big guns like miniguns and gatling lasers (every non-explosive big gun, including junk jets, broadsides, etc.) also have a 1/4 chance of exploding the torso if you target the torso or a limb near the torso.

Additionally, I upgraded the 50 cal modification to keep up with the Big Guns by completely redoing it. Specifically, the 50 caliber modifications have had their audio digitally remastered using actual 50 caliber lens recordings, which have been studio enhanced for the game and include new silent 50 cal sound effects. There is no doubt that the 50 cal is one of the loudest guns out there right now without a silencer, you will feel like you are welding a tank killer. Impact visuals have also been revised, now giving an explosive impact effect suitable for a 50 caliber rifle and adding an additional 15 points of damage to the gun. But I didn't stop there. 50 caliber rifles also have the potential to explode the torso when hit, and most likely the extremities in a manner similar to non-explosive large guns. (Please note that headshots will only blow up the head, not the torso or limbs)

As a bonus, all other weapons have been modified so limbs don't randomly fall off. Basically bullets can explode limbs like in the original game, but instead of causing the head to be severed, a 10mm shot to the head will cause the head to explode, fixing what I consider to be a flaw in the original. Of course, swords etc. will still cut off limbs, but they won't explode anymore. Finally, small caliber weapons like the .38 will not explode limbs. This mod should bring a new sense of realism and more fun to your game. You can still modify these guns however you want, and legendary versions of these guns still have legendary effects applied.

compatibility:

As far as I know, no one has solved this problem, so there should be no conflicts and be compatible with most things. That said, obviously if someone edits any of the vanilla guns as well, then it will override my fix and prevent limbs from being severed by the gun instead of exploding, which is no big deal - pick your poison or do a quick patch. The core of this mod is actually changes to 6 big guns, so if anyone edits these changes, please make sure my mod wins there, as my mod needs these changes to blow up a body.

If you have a preferred audio file for 50 caliber, you can overwrite my audio file with no problem. My audio value is UHD high quality audio of an actual 50 caliber rifle. When in doubt, just put my mod lower in your load order and everything will work.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
