Distress signal

This mod adds a new raider radio station to the Commonwealth called "Distress Signal". It features 13 original songs (+3 covers) that sound like they were produced by raiders, sweepers, and other weirdos from the wasteland. Song styles range from psych and grunge to jazz/punk fusion (I'm not sure whether to name it "jank" or "puzz"). Song themes range from silly and stupid to dark and nihilistic, including (but not limited to): heavy drug use, alcoholism, murder, genocidal ideation, cannibalism, mental disorders, suicidal ideation, prostitution, sexual harassment, and other wonders of wasteland life. While the subject matter is dark, the lyrics aren't overly graphic and no F-bombs are dropped in the song. I tried to keep it at a red-eye level of depravity. However, if this type of content isn't for you, you may want to skip this mod as it can get quite dark at times.

concept

I've always wanted to listen to heavy music while shooting down bad guys, but it always felt out of place in the Fallout universe. I believe the solution is to write songs that relate to Fallout not through musical style but through narrative, songs that tell stories that could only happen in the wasteland.

New craftable items

Added new craftable items to the workbench under the Decorations>Miscellaneous tab:

Radio: Tune into a distress call for some mild jive

Amplifier: Explodes the signal on your settlement to boost its happiness

New legendary loot

This mod adds unique items you can find in the world that are directly related to the songs, and expands their stories. These items are variants of low-level Raider gear that are quickly phased out, so they have unique effects that are more powerful versions of some of the weaker Legendary effects in the base game.

Night Terror: Double-barreled shotgun that deals more damage as the night gets darker (but does no less damage during the day)

Purifire: A barrel submachine gun that deals fire damage over time and has a stacking duration

Final Shot: Bolt Action Barrel Pistol, last shot deals 5x damage

Darling's left arm: an explosive minigun. Enough said. It's not as truly balanced as other miniguns, but without the extra damage effect, the base game minigun is nearly unusable. This one is level and mission gated, and it can (and will) blow you up.

Hat: A headgear that enhances the wearer's melee combat abilities at the expense of luck.

Brahman Wellington: While not legendary, this is a useful meal, unlocked after finding the recipe. There is also a unique version of this dish.

Place:

Night Terrors - Mass Pike Tunnel, adjacent to the storage room leading to the Boston Police Distribution Point

Darling's Left Arm - Fort Haggen Hangar (below the satellite array), medical bay

Puri Fire - Saugus Steel Works, blast furnace room, hidden under platform

The last one - Federation Ration Reserve, in a newbie lo …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
