Diamond City - Cutting and Polishing

This mod destroys pre-merges and rebuilds them within the Diamond City area.

Like many players, I (original author BaleaMen, the same below) always felt that the original "Diamond City" did not live up to its reputation. For a city described as the center of trade, politics, and postwar Boston life, it seemed too small and empty, with just a few cabins and a few crops. There was no real industry, no substantial expansion, and limited living space, doing little to support its status as the largest settlement in the Commonwealth.

I tried to change this using this mod. I expanded the city as much as reasonably possible without going overboard. Each area is walkable, with new alleys, new areas and areas. I improved the vanilla market, expanded farming, and added cranes, industrial buildings for manufacturing, water purification, and trade infrastructure.

The Dugout Inn is no longer the only place to relax. From a run-down underground club to an upscale casino, there are now new options for all visitors. There are also many new homes for citizens, some of which contain quests, as well as backstory entries scattered around the city, enriching the city's background and atmosphere.

New facilities include a place where robots can be crafted, and a clinic that sells bobbleheads with special properties so new players don't have to rely solely on exploration or quests to find them.

The city appears more vibrant with more NPCs going about their daily lives. Diamond City is no longer just a collection of shacks. Now there is a reason to visit.

I recommend pairing this mod with two other mods - Diamond City Indoor Expansion and Diamond City Outer Towns.

Before this mod, put the Diamond City internal expansion into the load order.

This will expand the interior and surroundings of Diamond City, making the entire city larger.

For guards, I recommend installing the Diamond City Guard Armor Overhaul mod. It replaced their armor with something that fit better and looked better.

I hope you have fun exploring new areas, interiors, and missions. I'd really appreciate it if you could take a screenshot or video so I can share it with others and hopefully see some compatibility patches for larger mods.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
