New, well-expressed ideas for Curie to share!

Have you ever noticed how much dialogue the companions in Fallout IV have to draw from? That's really impressive - at least more impressive than those gawking followers in Skyrim. Over the years, I enjoyed being able to ask them different things and hear how our relationship changed and developed as we adventured in the wasteland. Recently, however, I've noticed something that's starting to bother me - these companions, after years of listening to their thoughts and opinions about our relationship, have become extremely boring and repetitive. Additionally, I would come across YouTube videos where I would hear my peers make comments that I had never heard before!

So after realizing how much juicy companion dialogue I was missing out on and not finding anything explaining how to access it on the internet, I decided to give the Fallout IV Creation Kit a try. From this point on, I produced the first of what I hope to grow into a series called "Deeper Thoughts," with the goal of expanding the conversational pool of our wonderful peers in a simple, accessible way.

The real content of the change is actually quite simple. Finally found a couple of hitherto unheard voice files that were set to activate during "Hello" - for some unknown reason I never activated them - I just copied them and moved the duplicate files to the Idles pool from which to extract the "What's on your mind" option.

I decided to embark on this (admittedly basic) modding adventure with my personal favorite companion, Curie. I took five sentences from that section and added them to her "What's on your mind" dialogue when she's "in love" with you, as well as the other six sentences in the "Crush" section (when you're at maximum affinity but not romantically involved with her) to ensure she has more ways to express that she loves/want you without being creepy.

All affinity parts do the same thing - Curie now has more thoughts to share when she hates you, despises you, is neutral towards you, admires you, has a crush on you, and loves you. Some of it was even mixed to a tasteful degree while maintaining the way I assumed she actually spoke.

Finally, there are two versions of this mod. The first is simply labeled "Deeper Thoughts," which only adds "new" dialogue while maintaining her normal background pool (including lines like "It's hard to determine whether a surface is more or less susceptible to an outbreak" and "The influx of data is hard to handle..."). However, if you, like me, have long listened to Marie Curie talk incessantly about "finding people in the scientific community and academic institutions", you will think she is a broken record and I have produced a second version with my own approval - "Deeper Thoughts with Affinity-Sorted Dialogue". What this version does is redistribute these general annotations into associated sections. For example, Curie will no longer be required to "observe and scan indigenous life forms" after becoming a synth, or "continue to doubt whether the data she collects has any use" once she makes a major discovery. This is the version I prefer to use.

Thank you for your support, I hope you like it!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
