About this mod Machine translation
Aim behind objects and automatically tilt and shoot as you aim!
I always found that masking in Fallout 4 wasn't enough. In First Man, if you try to use cover tactically, you'll spend most of your time staring at a blank wall. Third person, all you can do is crouch behind some rocks or furniture, occasionally stepping out and hoping that enemy bullets don't hit you.
This mod hopes to give you a real cover mechanic.
Integrating third-person protection is no trivial task. Thank you for your patience and support!
★How to use★
Option 1. Auto/Integrated Mode
☢With your weapon drawn, sprint to the wall to cover it.
☢[Beta version only] Double-click the forward movement key to enter the cover.
Option 2. HOTKEY mode
☢ Activate the assigned hotkey to enter cover mode.
Both automatic mode and hotkey activation can be used interchangeably.
(Sprint to the wall to cover it.)
★Details★
How to choose your cover
You have two covering options - a standing cover and a crouching cover for low objects.
When entering the cover,
☢Go down (crosshairs under the eyes) into the crouch cover.
☢Go up (crosshairs above the eyes) into the vertical cover.
How to exit cover
☢Move back to the outlet cover. The activator can also be used to exit the lid (default) or configured to swap between standing and crouching lids.
How to get rid of low objects
Only in crouch hood,
☢Go forward and activate the Take Cover Activator for hotkeys.
☢[Beta version only] Double-click the forward movement key. (Turn this option on in configuration)
Make sure Cover Vault is enabled in the configuration - it's off by default.
(yes you can override)
★Installation★
Install the mod using the mod manager or manually copy the files from the archive into the Fallout 4 Data folder.
After installation, on first load, you will see a message box stating that Take Cover is active. If you don't do this, then the mod isn't installed correctly. Instructions on how to set up Fallout 4 for modding can be found here.
You will receive Take Cover and Take Cover Config in the AID section of the manifest.
At this point, the cover system is active. Use your weapon to dash towards the wall for cover.
You can also add the Take Cover activator hotkey to your Favorites shortcuts to quickly enter and exit the cover at any point in time, or use the FO4 hotkey to bind it to any key on your keyboard or any extra mouse buttons you may have. I highly recommend using FO4Hotkeys to bind Cover Cover to Shift+Aim so you can get your cover with just the click of a mouse.
Use Take Cover Config to configure various aspects of the cover system, including whether sprint-to-cover is turned on and whether cover-vaulting is enabled.
★Notes★
☢It's not easy, but - it works for VATS! VATS traditionally puts you on the scene and has no motion controls, but this mod lets you "pop out" even while in VATS. After entering VATS, click V (View Change Key) to pop up the cover page. When VATS ends, you automatically re-enter the cover!
☢Did you know that Fallout 4 has a first-person cover?
(Vanilla VS Mod)
★Known issues★
☢Weapons switched on the cover using favorites hotkeys will not be visible. Switch weapons with your Pip-Boy, or pop VATS and quit.
☢You cannot move directly to the right. To move to the right, you must move diagonally to the right or to the right, or you can move to the right and move forward.
☢Not compatible with melee weapons, heavy weapons (miniguns) and sniper rifles, puts you into first-person scope.
Without animation tools, it would be difficult to solve the first and second problems, as these are limitations in Bethesda's animation files.
If you're an animator and want help creating animations, get in touch!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
