Answer: What is this MOD?
This mod just replaces some existing textures and also provides some basic information on companion/npc customization.
B. Installation:
Use NMM or...
If you haven't already, edit your fallou4.ini file
It can be found at: ...\Documents\My Games\Fallout4
Find this line:
sResourceDataDirsFinal = STRINGS \
and change it to:
sResourceDataDirsFinal = STRINGS \,TEXTURES \,MUSIC \,SOUND \,MESH \
Extract the textures folder to the fallout 4 data folder: ..\steamapps\common\Fallout 4\Data
C. Which textures are replaced?
- Courser Armor - Replaced with all black 4K textures with a "glow" blue trim.
- Green hood - replaced with all black 4K textures.
Amber Eyes - Replaced with blue "Synth Eyes".
- Maxson's Battlecoat - Replaces "Courser General's Battlecoat"
- Institute Laser Weapon - Replaced with Black/Blue Texture
D. How to make my character look like PICS?
1.'COURSER GENERAL''BATTLECOAT" aka "Maxson's Battlecoat" - Open the console (~) and enter "player.additem 001fe1a6 1" without the quotes.
- Eyes - Just go to any surgeon/operating chair and change the eye color to "Amber"
- Face - Select extras on the surgical chair and slap on as much of the white "topcoat" design as needed.
- For heavy armor covering, I use Armor Smith Extended - I highly recommend it if you don't have it yet. It's completely optional.
- Chameleon (crouching and still invisibility) is a legendary effect of many wasteland treasures.
E. How do I make my companions look like PICS?
- Keep your companions close, preferably looking directly at them and open the console (~)
- Open the console and click on your companion. You should see the NPC ID pop up. It looks like this (000b1419).
- Now type “slm [COMPANION ID]” without quotes and press Enter key. For example. slm 000b1419
- After a short delay, you should see the Appearance menu on your screen.
- Close the console and head to town.
- Be sure to select “Amber Eyes”
- You can do this with any NPC :)
PRO-TIPS:
Typing "tai" into the console (~) without quotes turns off the selected NPC's AI to make them easier to access and edit. Remember to enter "tai" when selecting the NPC to reopen ai!
Type "tfc" into the console (~) without the quotes for "Toggle Free Cam" so you can get a better view. Typing "tfc" again will close freecam.
IMPORTANT - Editing a companion with multiple forms (ala Curie) is a bit complicated. There was a report about Piper that was also problematic. To be on the safe side, you can do it a little differently. See this video for details.
F. What if I only want to use one of the items?
- There are four folders in the download; "Actors", "Armor", "Weapons" and "Clothes"
- "Actor" contains eyes, "armor" contains hood and battlecoat, "clothes" contains courser armor, and weapons contains weapons.
- Just delete the folders you don’t want
G.Important Notes
- Non-companion NPC Coursers will simply change their armor. They don't automatically get Blue Synth Eyes.
- These are replacements and therefore applicable to all cases of "Amber Eyes", "Courser Armor" and "Green Hood".
I plan to continue working on this problem and learn more and more about modding.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
