Updated on February 2nd:

Version 1.2.2

Fixed a rare issue where militiamen could spawn without uniforms. This is due to a typo in the sergeant uniform rating table.

Reorganized Militia has upgraded its roster to fix an issue where NPCs wearing Kevlar armor when spawned may gain additional Kevlar variants and additional uniform gear.

Based on user request, a new craftable vanilla militia hat has been added. Can now be crafted at the Chemistry Station under the "Militia Uniforms" category.

This mod contains two versions: one in which the militiamen will spawn with custom uniforms, and a standalone version in which they will not spawn with custom uniforms.

In both cases, all uniforms can be crafted at the Chemistry Workbench under the "Militia Uniforms" category.

New update released: Standalone non-replacement version released, no changes to the tier list overview

I (BlackBar0n, the original author, the same below) decided to make this mod because the original militia in Fallout 4 lacked visual diversity and were often presented in a very civilian manner, despite the obvious hint of structured organization in the game background. At the height of their power, the militia had a clear hierarchy of command and a centralized headquarters in the castle.

Background information shows established ranks within the militia, including colonels such as Marbury and Ezra Hollis, and officers such as Lieutenant Foster.

These elements hint at the existence of an organized chain of command in the game, which, while mentioned in-game, is not fully developed visually.

This mod aims to expand on these ideas by providing coordinated uniforms and clear rank distinctions, more clearly showcasing the militia as an organized fighting force, while remaining within the visual and mechanical framework of Fallout 4.

This mod introduces a coordinated uniform for the Federation Militia, designed to clearly differentiate roles and ranks without changing core gameplay mechanics.

The mod adds redesigned militia camouflage uniforms and specialized clothing, including officer and medic uniforms, each with visible rank insignia. Military ranks are visually represented only through uniform variations and insignia; this mod does not add a dynamic promotion or advancement system.

Militiamen will wear standard infantry uniforms, with some randomly appearing as corporals or sergeants. Advanced levels must be equipped manually through the NPC inventory. Homemade weapons have been cleared from the upgrade list, and militiamen will now carry laser rifles, battle rifles, .44 revolvers, hunting rifles, shotguns or assault rifles for a more balanced weaponry.

The following military ranks are represented by different uniforms and insignia:

  • Militia ⮝ (uniform without rank)
  • Corporal ⮝⮝
  • Sgt ⮝⮝⮝
  • Lieutenant ✯
  • Captain ✯✯

*Colonel ✯✯✯

  • General ✯✯✯✯

Each military rank is intuitively identifiable in the game, and players can immediately identify the command role and rank within the militia unit.

Uniform Design

*Based on the original army uniform

*Coordinated color matching for each military rank

  • Officer uniform badges and details are clearer
  • Medical uniforms are visually distinct while maintaining the overall aesthetic of the militia
  • Design that naturally blends into the art style of Fallout …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
