Adds a new, highly customizable crossbow weapon to the game
Bow styles come in a variety of flavors, including the Flame Crossbow upgrade and the familiar compound bow design.
Machining a variety of different strong bolts for crossbows
Bolts act like arrows, in addition to being easily extended from enemies and can sometimes be retrieved.
Find crossbows in the world like other weapons - or if that's not your thing, grab the optional files
Raiders can occasionally be found carrying crossbows, and may use them to kill you.
See below to learn how to make bolts
The crossbow is a powerful and versatile weapon that can be used to start and end the game. It's a silent weapon that benefits from Sandman's perk. It is a rifle-style weapon that benefits from the Rifleman perk. Both stealth and sniper players should find the crossbow to their liking.
While the crossbow is potentially highly damaging, its slow reload compared to other ballistic weapons makes its use a tactical choice in a variety of combat situations. Projectiles also move slowly compared to using ballistic weapons, so skilled players will be rewarded for leading their targets.
Install and update
**important**
If you are using version 1.1, please read the following:
Option 1 (preferred): Uninstall 1.1, save, install 1.3.
Option 2 (risk is yours): Install 1.3 and overwrite.
If you choose option 2, you will need to rebuild or reacquire the crossbow in-game.
Otherwise, install 1.3 normally using the mod manager or manually extract the contents to the Fallout4\Data folder.
Each new version is recommended to grab updated files of your choice.
Patches for using other mods can be found under Optional Files and will continue to be updated.
FAQ/Troubleshooting
How do I make a bolt and modify a crossbow to use a different bolt?
Crossbow bolts can be crafted at the Chemistry Station. On the weapons bench, crossbows can be modified so that they use different types of bolts, provided the player has either in their inventory.
Help! I've been playing with it for days and I can't see a crossbow anywhere. Merchants did not sell them and enemies did not use them.
You may have other mods that conflict with this (see README tab). You'll need to make a merge patch yourself (link to video tutorial) or resolve these conflicts manually. If you have created a merged patch, make sure to load it after the conflicting mod in your load order.
Why do crossbow bolts become thin when reloading?
That's what they do. The crossbow is based on the animation of reloading the laser gun. So another bolt is placed on the player's body, and the ready-to-erect part never happens. Oh well.
I think this weapon needs serious rebalancing. Or just some tweaks.
Your feedback is most welcome. My goal is to keep this weapon balanced with the rest of the game.
Why is the torch bow upgrade available but no other <bolt type> upgrades in the receiver slot?
Currently, the Fire Crossbow's fire effects need to be placed with other bow moving parts. This is a technical challenge that will be overcome in future updates. However, this does not prevent you from making other bolt modifications to the Flame Crossbow.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
