Companion goes home

Finally send your companion home.

I'm not sure why Bethesda made such a huge oversight, but once you assign your companion to a settlement, you can never return him or her to their original home. It's almost game-breaking to see Piper talking about her sister Nat and how she's worried about her being alone, but there's nothing she can do to stop her from wandering around Sanctuary Hills all day trying to harvest carrots.

Nick? With a bunch of cases to solve at the agency, an assistant might mistake him for what he can do, and all he can do is spend the whole day with everyone else.

Danse has a team to lead him back to Prydwen. Deacon's recon missions don't run on their own. X6-88 needs to gain life and stop harassing my settlers. Preston - Well, Preston was the only one willing to stay by his side.

Born out of necessity, this model allowed Piper to finally return home to her sister. Nick to Ellie. Densey returned to his lineup. Deacon returned to railroad running duties.

Everyone can finally resume their lives instead of being stopped in time and waiting for you to pick them up.

usage

Option 1: Activator Version

After installing the mod, you will receive two items in the AID section of your inventory - Send Companion Home and Send Companion to Home Plate.

Use them to set your current partner's dismissal location to his or her original home or home board.

When you close a companion, press TAB to exit the settlement selection menu rather than selecting any option within it.

IMPORTANT: If you are using a mod that replaces a companion system (e.g. UCF), you should use the console command cqf home resetactor <REFID of companion here>. If the companion system has been changed, the mod may not automatically determine your active companion ads.

I hope Bethesda will release a patch for this behavior in a future update. I know, it's not exactly user-friendly with items or consoles, but I hope it serves you well until Bethesda finally lets the companions go home. Quick note: You don't need to keep this mod after using the command if you don't want to! Your companion's default home location will remain unchanged until you explicitly choose to send them to a different location. You can install this "free" all companion and uninstall it if you don't plan to use it again. Or keep it. The console version is very lightweight, changing zero forms and adding two (!) new ones.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
