This is a ported version of "Cloud Shadows in the Sky". When the sun is blocked by clouds, shadows will be added to the ground.
Skyrim CloudShadow technology was adapted for Fallout 4 to capture actual cloud geometry and textures. Shadows move in the direction of the visible sun, dimming direct sunlight behind cloud cover and allowing sunlight to filter through gaps in the clouds.
Cloud coverage is captured into a small cube map and projected onto the world using scene depth. This provides an efficient approximation. The resulting shadow mask will be filtered through the game's sunlight, creating patches of changing light and shadow as clouds move and the weather changes.
