Update incoming

Due to next-gen updates and the overhauled menu configuration in the base mod, it is highly recommended that you save this update for a new game. Seriously, the new menu configuration makes the original mod incompatible with all subsequent updates.

New features

Fixed issue with settlers not entering log structures. To be honest, never noticed this at first. When I tested, I relied on Dogmeat entering the building with me. I guess he teleported in when I wasn't paying attention. Turns out it's a bug with the navigation clip.

Added automatic closing door.

Added 3 new hip roof parts, as well as a flat roof panel. Hip roof pieces are available in 1 piece, 2 piece and 3 piece sizes. For larger roofs, B-shaped roof edges can be used to span the gaps between hip roof corner pieces.

Major additions include interior walls, wall panels, and wallboard, which can be found in the Log Wall Set and Steel Wall Set in the base mod. Interior walls are almost self-explanatory, use them to create rooms within raw wood and steel structures. Interior siding is basically like wallpaper on the interior surfaces of log and steel walls. They come in a variety of finishes, including brick, lath and plaster, ceramic tiles, wood and traditional wallpaper. In addition to providing interior design options, these panels also serve double duty as the solid wall panels help snap into place the single toilet fixture included in my updated barracks set. Wallpaper panels work the same as interior siding panels, but are used to cover added interior walls.

A demo of the new interior wall group can be viewed here:

Perfect for all post-apocalyptic ski lodge needs

While log buildings are not friendly in the strictest sense, they do date back to some of the earliest colonial settlements in the New World, and due to their structural simplicity, log buildings would be some of the earliest structures built in the post-nuclear landscape. Or not. This is just an excuse for me to post a collection of FO4's Lincoln Logs.

What does this MOD include?

My steel building kit contains pretty much all the same parts/components, it just looks like wood frame/log building components.

3 working fireplaces with removable chimney cap for chimney extension.

Other information

There are 2 roof configurations, short and tall. All posts, beams and various other components used with SHORT roofs are marked TYPE A. All components for high roofs are marked Type B.

Dadios, fireplaces, and any other stone texture objects marked TYPE A, TYPE B, or TYPE C are not related to the roof structure.

Fireplaces can snap on the outer edges of the foundation and flooring sections in the Log Building Set menu.

Fireplace chimney caps are generated when building a fireplace and cannot be built from the build menu. The cover can be removed and moved to accommodate chimney extensions. Once a sufficient number of chimney extensions have been placed, the cap section can be snapped onto the highest extension.

When the foundation is placed at a height that leaves a gap between the fireplace and the ground, a fireplace extension is provided to extend the stone facade of the lower fireplace to the ground. Watch the video for a quick demonstration.

Deck floors and deck porch floors require quite a bit of adjustment because they can easily get stuck on dado and foundations. In fact, they will snap to any part with a P-Floor attachment point, which is most original building parts. For the wraparound construction demonstrated in the video above, pay close attention that each section is connected to the adjacent section on the outermost edge, and that all outer edges are aligned correctly.

Type B roof dormers come in 2 sizes, depending on the overall roof dimensions …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
