background

The "Soviet Battle Rifle" is the Raider's best friend. After the collapse of NATO, many countries were left without reliable supplies of small arms and ammunition without the support of their former alliance friends. For many of these countries, the prospect of creating an entire weapons industry from scratch is a pipe dream at best. Fortunately for them, the Soviets came to the rescue with their AK-112 platforms. An export-only weapon, the Soviet battle rifle is one of the most prolific firearms of the 21st century. The AK-112 has a modular design based on the buyer's needs and can be chambered in 5mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm rounds. Because of its modularity, reliability, and low cost, the AK-112 has been sold for tens of millions of dollars to everyone from tin-pot dictators to modern democracies. Today, these rifles are a popular choice for attacking gangs and mercenaries, and the AK-112 has proven to be extremely durable, easy to maintain, and effective in combat even after a nuclear war.

Game performance, world realization

The Soviet Battle Rifle is a common mid-game weapon that does similar damage to a regular assault rifle but has less accuracy and control when firing. You'll find this weapon in several hand-placed locations and level lists. You'll first start encountering rifles around level 10, and on rare occasions, you may find an enemy boss carrying one at level 8.

This rifle can be found in the hands of the following groups: Raiders, Gunners, Diamond City Security, Rust Demons, Nuke World Raiders, Militia, Trappers, and vendors selling weapons.

The weapon's standard ammo is 5mm, but can be modified to 5.56 or 7.62 (all 3 magazines have unique models and textures). All three chambers can be found in the Wasteland.

There's only one unique this time around, "Frenzy Feeding," which makes your enemies go crazy on critical hits. It can be found in one of the larger Raider strongholds.

The rifle has a ton of attachments and can be modified to fit the roll of a battle rifle, marksman rifle, or fully automatic assault rifle.

This weapon is a cheap and reliable assault rifle, which means it has some disadvantages compared to your favorite tactical ar15. This rifle appears earlier in the level list than the assault rifle, but also has more recoil and is generally harder to control without modifications.

Compatibility and Q&A

This is the first of a series of classic fallout weapons that I plan to implement in the future, these may be remasters of other mods or they may be standalone like this mod. If you see the T-51 helmet in the upper right corner of the main photo, it means it is part of the CFWF4 series.

A known bug is that sometimes it will fire twice in semi-auto, which seems to be a bug in the animation. I actually like that it does this because it fits the character of a cheap imported gun, so I'll leave it at that and feel free to fix it if you want.

If you are playing on the old generation then your gun will be invisible, if you know what that means then you also know how to fix it, if you don't know what that means then don't worry.

Make sure to support all authors using resources for this mod.

I will not be making any patches or additions to this mod based on your requests other than bug fixes, I highly recommend you make changes to this mod as needed and share those patches on for others to use.

If you make a video review of this mod, please feel free to share it with me and I will promote it on the mod page.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
