describe
Do you know how good your reconciliation is? Well, I didn't... Basically, from the script, the way it works is that when you don't fly to the rescue of your settlement during an attack, the game does some calculations to determine the winner.
It gives you DefenseStrength (your defense level + settled population) and gives the enemy AttackStrength (your food + water level combined). Then it takes the AttackStrength value and adds or cancels half of it, but that doesn't matter here.
After that, it adds a random number between 1 and 100 between AttackStrength and DefenseStrength to make AttackRoll and DefenseRoll, and compares two of them, the more numbers, the better the winner.
But the thing is, both AttackStrength and DefenseStrength are capped at 100. That means the most you can do for a solution is to have a combined defense of 100 (including population) before adding random numbers between 1 and 100 to the game. an attack
Because of this cap, there's no way to be sure they'll win. However, AttackRoll is capped at 150 (less than DefenseRoll's highest possible value of 200).
What I did here was set up the WorkshopAttackScript so that it checks if your defense + population exceeds your food + water production, and if so, gives you an automatic win, bypassing the random chance. This means that as long as you have more Defense+Pop than Food+Water, you're almost guaranteed to win every time. Honestly, it's a shame when you leave, they can only slaughter those 3 Raider Scum when you show up. That kind of BS just makes me wonder if your 700 laser turret is being defeated by a bunch of junkies and their dogs when you're not around and this hilarious settler stoogerey has to go on.
So, by all means, download this Better Solving Defense if you're tired of your Fort Knox settlement being filled with idiots who can't shoot anything without your inspiring (terrible?) presence. I promise, you'll never look back. "It really works!" :p
Also, if you really, really want to know the pure math of solving attack magic, I wrote a nice boulder for you here.
Before I P*** OFF: I want to ask, if you really like my mod and feel it makes your game more playable, then take the time to agree. It lets the author know that people enjoy what they are doing and helps motivate them to keep going. Thank you in advance!
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
