Collection II: Classic Literature Edition
Rumor has it that, somehow, an extremely rare copy of the pre-war literary masterpiece has found its way into the Commonwealth. It's up to you to find them and preserve them for future generations. You can actually read them yourself too! The mod also includes a quest, four treasure maps, four new interiors, custom bookcases, and a new Perk for books.
Locations: 72 Readable books placed by me (original author Guido500) throughout the Federation (not available in Far Harbor or Nuclear World). Many of them can be found off the beaten track, in marked and unmarked interior and exterior locations such as sheds, cabins, cellars, restaurants, offices, etc. None of them are locked behind vanilla missions, and none require joining a faction or special skills like lockpicking. While you'll eventually discover many of these by wandering around aimlessly, there's a quest to help you out.
Missions, Perks and Interiors
Once the player reaches level 2, a quest is automatically triggered. This quest is completely optional and can be safely ignored if you wish, but it does have some small rewards. The Great Book Hunt takes you across the Commonwealth to four mailboxes and four treasure maps. Use the map to find lost pre-war masterpieces. Along the way, you'll be able to explore four new interiors and discover the fate of their former inhabitants (through notes and environmental stories). Ultimately, this quest will take you to a vanilla location, where you'll learn about the Commonwealth's first and possibly last post-war book club, as well as its mysterious president. After completing the mission, you'll get custom perks and a list of all the books and their exact locations, in case you missed some.
Read books
Books are readable in the game. Picking up a book for the first time triggers a pop-up message that includes a quote from that specific book. Most likely, the books will appear in your Pip-Boy inventory under "Miscellaneous/Notes." (I personally use the FallUI item sorter and rename anything to organize my inventory and categorize all my collectibles and valuables. You can now actually read your new book, at least the first part of it, by selecting it in Pip-Boy!
Customized bookcases
All books can be stored in custom bookcases, which can be built in Studio mode (found under Furniture > Shelves). There are three different bookcases and a shelf, each available in four wood options. Once placed, the books will visually appear in the bookcase in the order you added them. After placing them, you can still read them by simply selecting the title. By accessing the bookcase itself, you can retrieve stored books and place them back into your inventory.
Compatible with Book Collection I - Wasteland Philosophy!
This is a follow-up to my mod Book Collector - Philosophy for the Wasteland, which you can find here: Book Collector: Philosophy for the Wasteland. Both mods work well together. Literature and Philosophy can be mixed together and placed side by side in bookcases added by either mod (thanks …
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
