Black Landscape Restoration
Fix: Fixed a bug in the rendering of black terrain in Fallout 4
What this module does:
Fallout 4 has a long-standing engine bug that causes parts of the terrain to suddenly turn completely black.
Sometimes Fallout 4 seems to decide that it would look better if a completely normal terrain turned into a featureless black void.
This occurs when a terrain section contains too many or invalid terrain texture layers, preventing the engine from rendering correctly.
This bug has existed since Fallout 4 was originally released, appearing in both vanilla locations and modded terrain.
Function
Fix black landscape section
Prevents terrain from turning completely black if terrain texture rendering fails.
Safe texture fallback
Affected terrain falls back to its base ground texture instead of rendering as a black surface.
Vanilla and mod terrain
The fix applies regardless of whether the terrain in question comes from the base game, DLC, or a mod.
compatibility
This mod does not edit landscape records or textures.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
