About this mod Machine translation

Version 2.0 is here - it's a major update.

Two versions: one requires Far Harbor and Nuka World. One only needs the vanilla game. Just choose one!

The OPTIONAL Community Clothing and Armor Pack ("CCAP") has been simplified, requiring only Eli's Armor Compendium and Azar's Ponytail Hairstyle to be downloaded - and nothing else.

I highly recommend optional CCAP as the job they do is awesome (see new picture).

NOTE: Even though you see some skimpy clothes in the screenshots, there aren't any skimpy clothes in the mod.

Better Settlers doesn't use scripts, and the basic option only uses vanilla assets for maximum compatibility.

Compatible with Sim Settlements and all other major mods I'm aware of.

As far as I know, the mod has no bugs. However, you should still read the known game engine issues below before installing.

If you find any bugs, please tell me - but you shouldn't, because you shouldn't.

Better Settlers is an absolutely friendly mod that adds over 230 new settlers to the vanilla settler selection (270+ in total). You can choose to use vanilla gear and stats, or: It allows you to OPTION-friendly changes to its gear, stats, or mortality. Other options include: mod-created equipment and hair (highly recommended), all female settlers, or raiders as settlers. When a Settler spawns, all of these options are randomly generated, so no two settlers should be exactly the same.

If it matters, I made it with FO4Edit. The changelog is at the bottom.

Vanilla version:

This mod adds 230 new vanilla settler options with cosmetics for their faces.

You can stop there if you want.

Alternatively, you can choose from other lore-friendly options listed below.

Optional upgrades:

If you select OPTIONAL stat or device change, the options are as follows:

There is a choice between dirty and clean faces.

Settlers will no longer latch on and will run to the bell when called.

Check out the screenshots - they are self explanatory.

There are now about 230 face/race/hair/gender combinations (as opposed to about 28 vanilla).

Vanilla has about 30 civilian costumes and 25 hats (about three times the amount of vanilla).

All clothing and equipment are randomly generated upon spawning. No two settlers should be exactly alike.

This only affects GENERIC SETTLERS. Named settlers (like long lines), providers and children unchanged.

If you select statistics or device changes, they only apply to GENERIC SETTLERS.

If they survive the battle, universal settlers can help them with radiation and healing (important for Mortal Packs).

All have the opportunity to roll 0-2 raises, which they will definitely use in combat.

Everything gets better but kill friendly, starting weapons.

Get absolutely friendly gear on the spawn: Clothing (55%), Partial Leather (15%), Full Leather (15%), Full Metal Suit (10%) or Combat Armor (5%).

Metal and combat gear and its better weapons don't appear until higher levels.

There is an option to provide them with a light or heavy equipment package if you prefer.

There is an option to let settlers die (now that NPCs can't kill them, there's no point in defending settlements).

There is an option to make the deadly settlers even tougher - for those who want to play a frantic settlement raid game.

There is an option for most new settlers to be female or male

There is an optional Community Clothing and Armor Pack (CCAP) that adds options from the following mods. Eli's Armor Compendium and Azar's ponytail hairstyle. (These two files must be installed above all Better Settlers files in your load order).

These modules need to be downloaded to use. Do not install this option unless you know what you are doing. I highly recommend it!

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
