Better Night Vision Better Night Vision

Makes night vision appear very clear. It can now be configured between on, off and automatic between 7pm and 6am, and can be set up indoors with no extra cost or sneakiness. (For all non-sneaky types.)

The first image shows what it looks like at midnight. It's not as bright as the vanilla Nightman, but the color saturation and contrast are actually pretty good. About the only difference between midnight and cloudy days is that you really get less blooms at night.

The second picture shows what it looks like when you turn it on and you have two bright projectors at the entrance to the railway. That is, unlike vanilla Nightman vision, you won't be blinded by bright light. In fact, even in that bright light, you can still see it.

configure it

By default, when you next launch the game, you should automatically get the automatic/adaptive version. You don't need to do anything for this and it should work fine in almost any situation. You can find stuff in even the darkest corners of the Automatron, and it won't blind you even if you're in the Institute, so it should save you without any extra hassle.

If you want to turn it on and off yourself, you'll need to head to a cooking station and craft some Night Vision Juice Bottles with 1 Carrot and 1 Purified Water. (Carrots are good for your eyes, right?)) One of them will give you 10 vials. Just press a vial and you get a menu to turn night vision on, off, or adaptive. Next time you want to change it, another vial.

Note that they are consumed as they are used, so keep some with you if you plan on turning batches on and off manually. They only weigh 0.1 pounds each and a click on the cooking station gives you 10 of them, but I still think I at least pretended to stay immersive and didn't make it an infinite thing. Additionally, it provides more purpose for growing carrots.

Or, of course, you can pull down the console and

Help "Night Vision Juice" 0

And use player.additem to give yourself as many vials as possible, if you can't spare 1 carrot for 10 vials.

Compatibility and synergy

Unlike other vision related mods, it does not edit any cells or any other image space modifiers other than night vision images. Also, the only script I included is to give you the hidden perk when you start the game, and when you configure it with potions, respectively. The rest are from Bethesda. So it shouldn't conflict with anything other than other edits to Night People.

But even the conflict, not only doesn't harm anything in the game, it's actually useful. Any mod that lets you put Bethesda's night vision effects on goggles, scopes, armor, etc., my night vision should switch to mine if both are enabled, and mine is the last of the two in the load order. So if you want to use this on some goggles or glasses instead of automatically or using juice, someone else already did the job for me until this mod even existed.

Note that this only works when using Bethesda's image space modifier, not when they copy it. So if your favorite night vision device mod doesn't work that way, well, try another one.

If you use another device to manage it, you may want to disable automatic juice.

uninstall it

Before uninstalling, you may want to first turn off Night Vision with juice (or from the console, if you want to "go the route of most resistance," as Jezebel would say.) and then immediately save, exit, and uninstall.

If you want to use the console to remove perks, you can pull down the console and type

help“night vision”0 perk,

Then enter player.removeperk which contains all 3 IDs. Do not reload the game before disabling the mod or you will gain night vision again.

Note that you don't need to do this via the console - in fact, I'd rather you just use juice - but you can.

Also note that if you don't turn it off first, you can still fix it by simply disabling the mode and letting Beth's night vision effect run forever on your character. It doesn't damage anything in y …

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
