About this mod Machine translation

If you wish your basement would require finding Picket Fences magazines instead of being immediately available to players, check out Greslin's patch here!

Ever wanted to take a break from the outside world and take a break from the weather (and settlers?) Ever wanted to store your weapons, power armor, and other items in a safe space where they would be left behind? Don't hesitate any longer.

Basement Living adds 10 fully self-contained basements and bunkers (inside units), each with its own separate studio and collapsible door hatch, allowing you to place/access them from any settlement of your choice. They work just like a Home Plate, so you can dismantle and decorate them however you like! This is done carefully and methodically, without changing any existing settlements or interiors, and does not require any batch files, god mode or other workarounds. Most of them are replicas of vanilla cells, so you may recognize some. I found a few cool unused cells and duplicated them, adding a few things and lighting touches.

Each interior comes with a 100 power fuse box, as well as a control panel to disable/enable default lighting, fog effects and trash/debris! It may not look like it, but it took three weeks to get all elements set up and worked on (including replacing a lot of flooring and walls!) ** WHEW! **

There are no batch files. There is no god mode. There is no redistribution of settlements. Completely independent.

These are truly interior cells that you "zone" into, just like the vanilla interior, and they can be a safe place from enemies, weather, and settlers when you feel the need to leave. They are just like players. By default, there's plenty of stuff to scrap at each location to get you started, and if you need more, it's easy to climb up the hatch and grab materials from the main Settlement Workshop.

This uses vanilla keywords and is therefore fully compatible with billing keywords.

Hatches that "teleport" into the basement fall into a special category. If there's enough feedback I might change their location in the menu or require blueprints in the inventory to keep them clean.

Under Special, you'll find 10 new basement hatches, one for each unique basement. They require 10 metal, 10 wood, and 10 concrete to achieve the effect of "making" a basement, even if you just make a "teleport" door to enter.

Place a hatch anywhere in your settlement. I like to put them in the back of the house, or in a bedroom.

Once placed, the basement studio will automatically link or relink to the settlement you are in

Open it like any door and you are now in the interior basement!

Enter the studio mode to scrape the interior and start decorating it the way you like!

Only one door per basement can exist at a given time, so if you open a second door in the same basement, the old one will be moved to your location and you will be notified of where it was moved from. See video for details

The interior unit will remain 100% the same as when you left it, so you can move the entrance door to any settlement without any problems or impact on the interior.

In the end, making a unique copy of each basement for each settlement would yield 300 cells, which is more than the entire game and simply unmanageable. I've been using it for a while and the 10 feels really good because it's so easy to reposition at will. I only use 2 now because I put them in my main area where I tend to spend most of my time. One I use as a secluded home and the other as storage/armory.

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
