Updated on June 11, 2025:

Version 1.1

Added ESL flag for plugins. Moved standard ESP to optional file for VR users.

I (fadingsignal, the original author, the same below) wanted to replace the heating bucket grid in the game with something higher quality, but my OCD got as off track as ever, and here we are!

Warming barrels (and any meshes with animations) are not included in the pre-comb/pre-rehearsal system. This has no impact on previs/pre-combing, so it's fully compatible with the base game, PRP, etc.

Overview

Barrel Bonanza does three things:

Replaced the three original heating barrels with three new, unique, high-quality models with new visual effects, built-in lights, thermal refraction, and more. The main fire barrel now has "real" fire instead of cheaper flames.

Added 15 craftable fire barrel variants to the Workshop menu, including Vault-Tec, Poseidon Energy/Oil, and Red Rocket. (Under Decorations > Miscellaneous, there are campfires, barrels, and lanterns from the base game.

If you have the Base Object Swapper installed (not required!), the fire barrels in the game will be randomized into 45 different arrangements, using 5 different meshes and 15 texture swaps.

It does this without affecting precomposition, since animated meshes (like heating buckets) are not included in the precomposition data from the start. It is one of the rare models in the world that can be replaced without any problems.

It cannot replace regular drums as these drums are part of a pre-combined system.

It also does not currently have the ability to replace aluminum strip bins. I'm working on it.

Install

Install the mod using your usual mod manager and run it, making sure the load order is near the bottom to override any textures/meshes from the base game Iron Barrel.

If you have Base Object Swapper installed, the INI file will be automatically detected and the replacement buckets will be randomized.

grateful

There was a lot of good stuff out there and I decided to go shopping and buy/modify some good barrels to save time.

Texture variants, geometry editing, embers, VFX, lighting, etc. were all handled by me.

Other barrels come from assets purchased under a standard commercial license

Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions

  1. Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
  2. There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
  3. Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
  4. Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.

Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
