B.A.E. - Bethesda Archive Extractor v0.11
Before anyone else...there's the Bethesda Archive Extractor.
If you encounter any problems, please make a bug report (see known issues).
B.A.E. can extract BA2 and BSA files.
Known issues
- Checking/unchecking files requires an increasingly longer number of files within BA2.
Version history
0.01 - Initial commit
0.02 - Significantly faster opening times for all BA2, especially Fallout4 - MeshesExtra.ba2
It took a few minutes (now it takes about 1 second).
0.03 - Width/height are actually listed as height/width in BA2, so non-square textures are
Error extraction.
- When Windows 10 users complain that the window is too small, give the window a minimum width/height.
- Multiple archives can be opened via the file dialog or by dragging to the executable file.
0.04 - Cube maps were incorrectly extracted.
0.05 - Skyrim SE BSA support
0.06 - Added drag and drop to main window
- Added application icon
- Added about window
0.07 - Corrected the size sent to LZ4 for decompression, which only affected a very small number of files.
For information, see the sticky information on the page.
- Added a file filter that allows you to delete text files containing a full or partial list of file names (using wildcards).
This is primarily to simplify re-extracting files affected by the bug mentioned above.
0.08 - Extraction speed increased by 3-4 times
- Added filters to UI. Search file name or entire path, supports wildcard (*)
0.09 - Drag and drop file extraction. You can drag one or more files from the archive to any location
On your computer, include programs that can open the file type you are dragging.
Ctrl- or Shift-click rows to drag multiple files. The checkbox is irrelevant and is used for normal extraction.
NOTE: Dragging folders is currently not supported.
0.10 - Fixed selecting all/none where I inadvertently broke the last release. Implementation has also been improved to be faster.
- Fixed reading/writing of extended ASCII file paths.
To my knowledge, only 3 vanilla FO4 filenames are affected (María_F.fuz, María_M.fuz, Sánchez_F.fuz)
0.11 - [BA2] Added support for sRGB variants of BCn textures that were not used in official documentation prior to Creation Club and FO76. Non-sRGB BC1/2/3/7 are fully supported.
- [BA2] Added support for BC4 textures (grayscale).
- [BA2] Added support for R8G8B8A8 and R8G8B8A8 sRGB textures. FO4 has only used B8G8R8A8 before.
- [BA2] Added support for BC5 SNORM (Signed Normal) textures. FO4 has only used UNORM (unsigned) before.
- Added an error log to the progress window that will list all files that were not successfully extracted.
Install & use Install: follow the bundled instructions
- Unzip the archive from playbuff and read the bundled readme / instructions first.
- There is no universal mod manager for this game: some mods replace game files directly, some go into a game-specific Mods folder, and some need a game-specific community loader or tool first — follow the bundled readme.
- Place the files exactly as the readme says; mods with listed dependencies need those installed too.
- Launch the game to confirm it loaded; some games require enabling mods in settings or an in-game mod menu.
Install locations vary a lot between games and mods — the bundled readme is the most reliable guide.
